Ho-Oh and Lugia expansion possibly leaked for Pokémon TCG Pocket

Here’s a quick look at a possible Gen 2 set that Pokémon TCG Pocket fans have been waiting for.

Recently, the Center LEAKS shared a video that appears to be a teaser for an upcoming expansion pack in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, showcasing the mascot characters from Generation 2 – Ho-oh and Lugia.

Based on various accounts circulating online, it appears that the Official Italian Pokémon Channel, known as Canale Pokémon Italiano Ufficiale, may have accidentally posted a video trailer which has since been removed.

The trailer displayed a collection titled “Lavia del cielo e del mare,” meaning “The Path of the Sky and the Sea.” Although this name might seem lengthy for a Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion, it’s possible that if this leak is authentic, the final English title will be shorter yet still capturing the essence of the original translation.

Featured cards of the rumored Ho-Oh and Lugia set for Pokémon TCG Pocket

Upon revisiting the trailer, we notice that the main spotlighted Legendaries are Ho-Oh EX and Lugia EX, each having 150 HP. Interestingly, despite being a Fire-type card, Ho-Oh EX has an action that requires three Colorless Energy to perform, inflicting 80 points of damage. Similarly, Lugia EX showcases a move capable of dealing the same amount of damage, but it needs three types of Energy (Fire, Water, and Lightning).

Here’s a rough translation of Ho-Oh ex and Lugia ex’s moves:

  • Ho-Oh ex’s Phoenix Turbo: Take a Grass Energy, a Water Energy, and a Lightning Energy from your Discard Pile and attach them to your Basic Pokémon in any way you like.
  • Lugia ex’s Elemental Fury: Discard a Fire Energy, a Water Energy, and a Lightning Energy from this Pokémon.

Based on the strategies these Pokémon appear to employ, they seem to be facing challenges in keeping up with the current game dynamics. If they are indeed powerful options, it’s possible that additional cards within the same set may provide a useful function for their abilities.

Other cards revealed in the leak

Apart from revealing Ho-oh ex and Lugia ex, they also gave us a glimpse into the Johto Pokémon collection. Following this, the three Johto starters – Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil – were unveiled, along with a Cleffa, a special full-art Pichu, a Shiny Gyarados, and new ex versions of Umbreon and Espeon.

To conclude, the trailer revealed four Trainer cards, two of these being Supporters. Regrettably, because the leaked video was of poor quality, we couldn’t collect any additional details about them.

It appears that rumors are circulating about a potential new Pokémon Trading Card Game set being released soon. Based on current patterns, we can expect to see a trailer for this upcoming release either towards the end of July or in the first week of August at the latest.
