Overwatch 2 reveals Wuyang trial release date and new lore

Here’s the latest on Wuyang’s hero trial and his story in Overwatch 2.

Originally referred to by the alias “Aqua”, it has been announced that Wuyang will be the upcoming support character in Overwatch 2. Additionally, players can expect a brief hero trial for him in the near future. In preparation for this trial, Blizzard Entertainment has shared some fresh background details about him.

Overwatch 2 Wuyang trial release date

Starting from July 22nd, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed that the Wuyang hero trial commences on August 14th and continues through August 18th. From our past observations, it’s highly probable that the trial will extend until August 19th at 11 a.m. Pacific Time, as Overwatch 2 usually receives updates on Tuesdays at this specific time.

Players will have an opportunity to experience Wuyang’s agile maneuverability, combined damage effectiveness, smooth healing capabilities, and disruptive power.

“Expect a learning curve with some serious splash potential,” Blizzard Entertainment added.

Overwatch 2 Wuyang lore

Previously, our understanding of Wuyang was limited to him being a Chinese hero with water-wielding abilities and possessing a distinctive weapon, as shared by senior narrative designer Jude Stacey. However, recent revelations have added depth to his character. We now know that he hails from Wuxing University’s Water College and exhibits a rebellious personality.

In the context of Overwatch 2’s storyline, this institution is a fresh addition, but it should be noted that Overwatch’s lore already includes Oasis University. This was where Moira held her position as the Minister of Genetics. It was also at this university where the Phreaks made their appearance during Hazard’s teaser trailers and the official hero trailer.

During the ChinaJoy 2025 convention, starting on August 1, we may gain additional insights about Wuyang.
