From a globally recognized A-lister, Lindsay Lohan’s career has shifted towards appearing primarily in movies with smaller production budgets.

However, at 39 years old, the actress is making a comeback by teaming up once more with Jamie Lee Curtis in an upcoming project titled “Freakier Friday,” which serves as a sequel to the 2003 remake of the film “Freaky Friday.

Over the course of Lohan’s career, both her salary and net worth have experienced significant ups and downs, as they’ve changed along with her roles and projects.

During the span of her professional life, Lohan had earned millions from movies, yet her initial paycheck for Freaky Friday stands out due to its comparatively high value.

As a devoted fan, I must say that while Disney’s 1998 reboot of The Parent Trap was certainly her breakout success, it was the film Freaky Friday that truly crowned her as a teenage icon and solidified her position as a powerful figure in the Hollywood landscape.

The movie, helmed by Mark Waters, ultimately proved to be an unprecedented success, earning more than $160 million at the box office while only costing $26 million to produce.

However, it’s worth noting that Lindsay Lohan received a surprisingly small amount for the movie – a reported $550,000, as per Celebrity Net Worth.

For a 16- or 17-year-old, that payday would certainly be a significant windfall; however, this young prodigy is destined to outshine it numerous times in the future.

In 2004, her subsequent acting job was in the movie “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.” It is said that she received close to twice as much money for this role, amounting to approximately $1 million.

She maintained that salary for Mean Girls, which she starred in later that year.

The film became one of her signature roles and is now a heavily quoted cultural icon. 

For several years, it appeared that Lindsay was invincible, landing lucrative contracts worth millions of dollars due to her popularity.

In her sequel “Herbie: Fully Loaded,” she faced harsh criticism from critics, yet it managed to do well financially. On the other hand, her shift toward art house cinema with a supporting role in Robert Altman’s “A Prairie Home Companion” received rave reviews and a decent return on investment, despite having a minimal budget.

Lohan’s previous triumphs paved the way for her largest earnings yet, estimated at $7.5 million from the 2006 movie “Just My Luck”.

The movie was universally panned by both critics and viewers, earning just $38 million at the box office compared to its production cost of $28 million. A large portion of that expense went towards Lindsay Lohan’s salary.

Despite earning more than its manufacturing expenses, the movie Just My Luck probably didn’t yield much profit when considering advertising and promotional expenditures.

From that point onward, things took a turn for the worse. Her following significant role didn’t come about until the 2007 movie “Georgia Rule,” where she acted alongside Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman; however, this production failed to meet expectations.

In that particular year, she took on leading roles in the absurd horror-thriller “I Know Who Killed Me” and the TV film “Labor Pains.” Unfortunately, both failed to make a significant impact at the box office.

In the subsequent phase of my career, I found myself taking on cameo appearances where I portrayed myself or minor supporting roles.

2013 saw Lindsay Lohan back in the spotlight as the lead actress in Paul Schrader’s provocative thriller, The Canyons. This role sparked renewed critical attention, but she wasn’t able to leverage it effectively with substantial follow-up roles. From 2015 to 2019, Lohan did not appear in any films.

Lately, she’s been making an attempt to redefine her image through a series of mediocre and critically panned Netflix romantic comedies like “Falling For Christmas” (2022), “Irish Wish” (2024), and “Our Little Secret” (2024).

In addition to her acting roles, she also held the position of executive producer for those streaming movies, which probably meant she earned a much more substantial income compared to what she would have made solely as an actress.

In the previous year, it was noted that Lindsay Lohan appeared in a brief role in the musical adaptation of Mean Girls, allegedly receiving a payment of $500,000 for minimal involvement. This suggests that her financial value or marketability could be improving.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lindsay made an impressive $28 million from her film roles. 

Instead, a significant portion of those earnings were lavishly spent on extravagant expenses, such as an alleged $40,000 on tanning services, a monthly mansion rental fee of $8,000, and an astonishing storage locker that amounted to $144,000.

The party girl also allegedly ran up an eye-popping $46,000 tab at LA’s Chateau Marmont. 

In 2012, as reported by Business Insider, she found herself with the IRS taking over her bank account due to an outstanding debt of $233,000 in unpaid taxes.

In the last few years, it seems like Lindsay has managed to secure her financial situation, with current estimations placing her net worth at approximately $2 million.

For a prosperous actor in Hollywood, that’s a commendable sum, but it pales in comparison to the potential earnings she could have amassed if her streak of success continued or if her costs didn’t exceed her income.

It isn’t yet known exactly what Lindsay Lohan is earning for Freakier Friday, however her role as Executive Producer implies a substantial income for this project. The much-anticipated Disney sequel is set to hit cinemas on August 8, 2025.
