There’s a new Death in Paradise-style detective show confirmed, and it’s coming to the UK
Channel 5 has announced that a new detective series titled “Death in Benidorm” (with a twist similar to “Death in Paradise) is now being produced.
Although specifics about the series are scarce, it’s been confirmed that Simon Delaney, known for directing two episodes of Death in Paradise, will take charge of the production.
The summary states that after leaving the tumultuous world of detective work in the UK, Dennis Crown now manages a tranquil bar in Benidorm. However, when tourists mysteriously die, he finds himself unwillingly pulled back into detective duties, with encouragement from his crime-drama enthusiast barmaid Rosa.
What to Read Next
Each episode features Dennis, with his practical real-life skills, and Rosa, who knows more than an encyclopedia about TV shows, taking on a fresh murder case set in paradise. They strive to maintain good relations with the local Spanish police during their investigations.
Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer and Head of Scripted at Paramount UK, has disclosed that “Death in Benidorm” is among the six fresh series lined up on Channel 5. He encourages viewers to brace for an exciting array of “novel thrillers and mysteries centered around compelling characters”.
In addition to “Death in Benidorm”, a four-part thriller titled “Number One Fan” has also been given the go-ahead. The show revolves around Lucy, a morning TV host, whose life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with her biggest fan, Donna.
Additionally, Channel 5 has planned another suspenseful series called “Missed Call“. In this story, a concerned single mother named Sarah receives an unsettling call from her daughter Kate, who is abroad on a school exchange trip in France. Upon hearing the distressing news, Sarah embarks on a journey to the French village to locate Kate. However, when she discovers that Kate has gone missing, Sarah takes it upon herself to conduct her own investigation to uncover the facts.
As a devoted viewer, I’m thrilled to share that Channel 5 is expanding its collection of gripping dramas with two new additions: “The Family Secret” and the four-part series “Imposter.” The latter promises captivating performances from Kym Marsh, known for her role in “Coronation Street,” and Jackie Woodburne, a beloved legend from “Neighbours.” Can’t wait to see what these talented actors bring to the table!
Doubtful Reunion
The story revolves around the life of hotel proprietor, Helen. One day, a young woman named Amanda suddenly reappears in her life. This woman claims to be the daughter Helen gave up for adoption years ago. As time passes, however, Helen harbors growing doubts about Amanda’s true identity.
Death in Benidorm is yet to receive a release date.
