Amanda Keller reveals how a precious getaway helped her ‘let off steam’ amid her husband’s battle with Parkinson’s disease

Amanda Keller shared that a wonderful vacation with her son Jack was incredibly timely, given her husband’s persistent struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

63-year-old radio personality openly shared during the Jonesy & Amanda program on Tuesday that her family has been struggling due to Harley’s deteriorating health. A recent getaway to Tasmania with her 22-year-old son Jack offered them both a chance to relieve tension.

On Tuesday, she informed co-host Brendan Jones that Jack and I had many conversations about Harley during our trip.

When you’re vacationing, you tend to enjoy yourself excessively during the first night, only to spend the remainder of your trip regretting that exuberance?

On Friday, I wrapped up my radio show, then we took a flight to Hobart, where we spent time strolling around Salamanca Bay.

She went on saying: “After having our meal, I suggested, ‘Why don’t we grab only one drink at this bar before calling it a day.’

In just a moment, it went from 8 to 12:30 at night. We were dancing in a place that was more of a bar than a club, and it was clear that Jack was the youngest person in attendance.

The following day, we both felt quite ashamed about our actions. However, that night had been an excellent opportunity for us to relax and unwind.

Or, more informally:
The next day, we were both pretty mortified about our antics. But man, it was a fantastic night to cut loose!

Both versions convey the same meaning, with the second one being slightly more casual in tone.

In another part of our conversation, Keller shared about the challenging choice she had to make, as her husband is not permitted to travel with her.

It’s quite challenging, yet at the same time, I feel they need a break from everything as well. Or perhaps some quality time together where we can discuss these matters.

Amanda broke down in tears in May when she spoke about her 35th wedding anniversary with Harley.

‘I don’t want to get emotional,’ she said. ‘It’s my wedding anniversary today.’

In earlier times, Harley and I would have been dining out tonight. However, he isn’t feeling well enough for that kind of outing.

In her late twenties, Amanda noted that the weightiness of wedding vows can sometimes be overlooked by younger individuals.

When Brendan mentioned the idea of standing by a partner through thick and thin, Amanda replied that it’s tough to understand its depth until one experiences it personally.

You sometimes find yourself juggling immediate tasks while also struggling with the challenges they present.

Alternatively, you switch between addressing the issues at hand and grappling with the difficulties those issues pose.

‘I’m not convinced that it’s possible to reach the age of 35 without experiencing change or upheaval in one’s life.’

While the couple’s life has changed invariably, Amanda added that she is grateful.

‘We’ve lived a rich and wonderful life together, and we still do,’ she said.

The couple share two sons, Jack and Liam.
