Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock reveals why she struggled to enjoy working as a solo artist as she opens up about industry pressure

Leigh-Anne Pinnock expressed that the pressure and anticipation associated with being part of a popular girl group impeded her ability to appreciate her experience as a solo performer.

The ex-member of Little Mix, now aged 33, launched her solo venture in 2022 and confessed that at first, she carried the burden of unattainable expectations.

Following her entry into the X-Factor group, the ex-Pizza Hut server subsequently achieved a remarkable 19 top-ten hits and five chart-toppers with the band.

She told Capital XTRA Breakfast on Monday: ‘The pressure is what stopped me enjoying it as much.

It’s clear that, given your origins are part of such a large collective and the expectation to match their success, achieving similar results in a short timeframe is essentially unattainable.

‘That took 10 years. It takes work. And also, I’m not doing music like the group did.

I chose a new path, and the pressure associated with those expectations became too much, making it feel unenjoyable.

The solo artist expressed her desire to create music freely, absent from the similar pressure she experienced while being part of a girl group.

She explained: ‘I’m choosing to do this alone because, firstly, I want to enjoy myself. You understand, I feel I deserve some fun without the heavy burden on me.’

In December 2021, Little Mix revealed their decision to disband, having achieved greatness together on the X Factor back in 2011.

Later, the member of Little Mix was asked by Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie on how she deals with the stress that arises from being part of a well-known group in radio interviews.

She acknowledged that she needed to alter her thought process since Little Mix took a break in 2021.

Leigh-Anne emphasized that for her, success means being content and capable of creating music that she loves and feels proud of.

She noted that compromise is no longer essential for her, given her status as a solo artist. She expressed her desire to create music that truly reflects her desired sound, rather than something resembling it only slightly.

She expressed: “I don’t prefer continuing like this any longer. In fact, I aim to feel completely satisfied, resolute, and passionate about my work again.

‘I really feel I can really say that now with chest.’

Leigh-Anne was appearing on the breakfast show to promote her new single ‘Been a Minute’.

To Rolling Stone, she described her latest track as the “anthem of the season,” hinting that its infectious melody would compel anyone who hears it to feel an irresistible urge to dance.

She shared with the media: ‘It symbolizes freedom, having complete command, and a sound I believe deserves to be amplified and rejoiced during the summer.’

As an overjoyed devotee, I can’t help but share the thrilling news! This Little Mix sensation has announced that she’s ushering in a fresh chapter in her musical journey, one where she sets the pace and takes daring leaps.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m focusing less on others’ opinions and expectations, choosing instead to shake things up and break free from the mold. Say goodbye to the ‘nice girl’ stereotype!

This version maintains the original message of breaking free from societal norms and emphasizes personal growth and empowerment in a first-person perspective.
