Game of Thrones: Kingsroad: The Complete Traits Guide and how to use them

A Look at the Open-World RPG, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Released by Netmarble

In November 2022, we learned about an exciting new release—Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, an open-world role-playing game. After much anticipation, it was finally unveiled in May 2025. Set within the expansive landscapes of Westeros, this game is teeming with tension and adventure.

I’ve been engrossed in playing this game for quite some time now, and one aspect I appreciate is its customizable character classes that allow you to mix various skills and traits. To assist fellow players with the trait system in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, I’ve created a helpful guide.

List of Traits and how to use them for each Class in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad

In this game, the Trait Tree serves as a tool to improve characters and devise combat strategies. You can find it in the Menu. It offers three choices: Trait Tree, Reset, and All Effects. The first one is what we’ll delve into further. For now, keep in mind that you can adjust the level of an active trait or deactivate a trait and choose another one instead.

You can opt to reset the existing skill categories using the Reset feature, which won’t cost you anything. Lowering a skill level is based on your character’s advancement, not on any fees. Lastly, you can choose to display statistics organized according to your current skill level. As every character possesses three fundamental abilities, the skill tree offers three categories of skills:

* Traits 1
* Traits 2
* Traits 3

  • Attack
  • Support
  • Defense

Essentially, this is aimed at boosting your skills. The initial group, labeled ‘Attack’, performs exactly as its name suggests. It’s crucial to keep a balance in your attributes according to how you intend to play. Your choice of which to prioritize for unlocking and improvement will depend on your game strategy and style.

One more point I’d like to clarify is that you’ll encounter a node after some basic characteristics have been displayed. Once you open the node, it will also grant access to advanced traits. Therefore, it’s crucial to unlock the trait that opens the node initially (this can be likened to any fundamental/lower trait) and then progress to the subsequent ones.

Knight

If you’re taking on the role of a Knight, remember that an offensive strategy is typically your strongest defense. With the enhancement of your main attribute, you can effortlessly toss ordinary foes aside, similar to dispersing a cloud. Persistent attacks, combined with skillful parrying, will ensure your dominance in every battle.

Initially, review your character’s attributes to identify those that require improvement. Since you need more attacking power during the night, it would be beneficial to focus your efforts primarily on enhancing this aspect.

  • Attack: Attack Power Increase> Mighty Strike Power Damage Increase> Lethal Strike> Max Rage Increase> Attack Power Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency> Deadly Combo> Keen Gage> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Rate> Seasoned Strike.
  • Defense: Max HP Increase> Defense Increase> Parry> Parrying Proficiency> Evasion Charges Increase> Damage Taken Reduction> Evasion Charges Increase.
  • Support: Duration of Effects From Consumables> Rage Gain Increases> Max Rage Increase> Heat of Rage> Mount Stamina Increase> Ranged Attack Damage Increase> Skill Cooldown Reduction> Max Rage Increase.

Keep in mind that the strength of your supporter’s character revolves around “Rage buildup”, since I prefer not to utilize bolts with the “Knight”. However, feel free to select different attributes if you wish. Also, please note that many traits in each category may not be accessible for you to unlock due to the difficulty in accumulating trait points.

Assassin

You’re aware of it – it operates covertly and employs swift, precise strikes. Given its stealthy nature, maintaining a strong Defense trait similar to the Knight seems appropriate since it doesn’t require heavy defense investment. However, the Assassin character should frequently utilize critical strikes, which aligns perfectly with this role. Here’s the proposed build:

1. Maintain a strong Defense trait like Knight.
2. Frequently use Critical Strikes.

  • Attack: Critical Strike Damage Increase> Critical Strike Rate Increase> Mighty Strike Damage Increase> Lethal Strike> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Damage Increase> Critical Strike Rate Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency> Deadly Combo> Max Rage Increase> Critical Strike Damage Increase> Seasoned Strike.
  • Support: HP Tincture Recovery Increase> Craft Throwing Dagger> Max Range Increase> Time to Strike Back> Mount Stamina Increase> Rage Gain Increase> Rage Consumption Decrease> Max Rage Increase.

Sellsword

Although we’ll primarily employ it as a defensive vessel, it’s crucial that the focus remains on the blocking or parrying technique, which is equally important for the other two roles. We aim to design this role with a strong emphasis on defense, while maintaining a balance in other attributes. Furthermore, minimizing the amount of damage it takes should be a top priority.

However, it seems like you’ve just started your journey, and accumulating all the traits will require considerable time. For the Sellsword class, here are some options you could consider:

1. Agile Warrior – Known for swift movement and precise attacks.
2. Brute Force – A tank-like character with high damage resistance.
3. Shadow Stalker – Master of stealth and assassination.
4. Mercenary Tactician – Strategic thinker, skilled in battlefield command.

  • Attack: Rage Gain Increase> Attack Power Increase> Mighty Strike Damage Increase> Armor Crusher> Max Rage Increases> Attack Power Increase> Basic Skill Proficiency.
  • Defense: Max HP Increase> Defense Increase> Parry> Parrying Proficiency> Evasion Charges Increase> Defense Increase> Evasion Charges Increase.
  • Support: Rage Gain Increase> Max Rage Increase> Heat of Rage> Mount Stammina Increase.

In this game, taking advantage of the feature to reevaluate and restart your character traits is crucial. It’s essential to assess whether a certain trait is beneficial during combat situations. A little bit of trial and error can prevent you from chasing after unnecessary traits or those that aren’t useful at the current moment. I trust this Game of Thrones: Kingsroad guide will assist you in directing your trait points where they are most effective!
