The Return of the King: Topson hints at his long-awaited return to Dota 2
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen himself has dropped some tantalizing hints about his potential comeback to the world of Dota 2, with the much-anticipated The International 2025 fast approaching!
After retiring from professional Dota 2 following The International 2024, Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen is gearing up for a grand comeback. With the Esports World Cup 2025 drawing to a close and The International 2025 fast approaching, this seems like an ideal moment for his return. Although he resumed playing two months ago, things have now solidified for his return.
Let’s consider the upcoming appearance of Topson, examine his potential destinations, and discuss the implications for the competitive landscape.
Rejoining Dota 2
Approximately two months ago, some detectives from Reddit observed that the Dota 2 account “Tundra.Topson” had resumed gameplay. After a considerable break, Topson reappeared, but he was only seen playing in a group of five with his friends through the party queue system.
For some time, it persisted until two weeks ago, when all of a sudden, his account found itself in a Battle Cup tournament. Although only three matches are shown on Dotabuff from this Battle Cup, there’s been talk that Topson might have resumed playing Dota 2. And with this, we were given a hint of his potential comeback.
Topson returns at TI looms – but why?
On July 17th, Topson announced via his social media account that he will be coming back, but more information about the circumstances of his return will be shared on July 21st. At this point, it’s unclear whether he’ll be getting back to streaming or resuming play in Dota 2. Some fans are also speculating that Topson might serve as a stand-in at The International if required.
As the clock ticks towards TI 2025, athletes are gearing up for visa acquisitions in Germany later this year. Yet, history has shown us that this process can be fraught with challenges, particularly for players hailing from specific countries. Topson, who stepped in for Tundra Esports at TI 2023 and officially joined their roster in third place at TI 2024 before retiring, appears poised to make a comeback.
While the specifics about Topson’s future are still uncertain, there’s an air of excitement surrounding his potential comeback. If he decides to re-enter the professional gaming world, he could potentially shift the dynamics in a positive way. However, only time will tell if that happens.
