Tom Cruise’s ex Rebecca De Mornay drops rare comment about their Risky Business love affair
Rebecca De Mornay was acquainted with Tom Cruise prior to his rise as a global star, and she remains delighted by his continued success over four decades since their collaboration in a project together.
Actor, aged 63, who’s been touring Europe with speculated partner Ana de Armas, 37, was on the verge of stardom when he and De Mornay, 65, collaborated in the racy 1983 comedy “Risky Business”. This film not only boosted his career but also propelled De Mornay’s as well.
65-year-old De Mornay expressed in an interview with Page Six, during the promotion of her latest movie, Saint Claire, that she feels incredibly proud of him.
In the movie “Risky Business,” Tom Cruise played a high school senior planning to attend college, who transforms his house into an illegal brothel over a weekend when his parents are away, following his encounter with a prostitute portrayed by Rebecca De Mornay.
Regarding their professional paths, the actress from NCIS, who had a three-year relationship with the actor known for Mission Impossible, likened him to one of his iconic movie roles.
She shared with the source, “He’s essentially saying, ‘I’m the best of the best, just like ‘Top Gun’, and that’s exactly what America was hoping for, and he’s delivered on it.’
‘He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is,’ the Jessica Jones star said.
I’m incredibly proud to have known him back when we were both living in the outskirts of Chicago during the filming of ‘Risky Business’. It’s amazing to see what he aspired for then, and how far he has come since.
‘We started this together and look what he did with it,’ she added.
Regarding her professional future, De Mornay confided to The Independent in 2024, ‘I didn’t have a clear roadmap for what came next. I wasn’t keen on being pigeonholed as the seductive woman, but it was quite challenging to find my way.’
After her mother’s passing three years ago, she appeared to lack a clear path forward, which could be rephrased as: “Everything since then seemed like I was navigating life without a map.
In the town of Saint Claire, De Mornay portrays a retired actress who is also the grandma of Bella Thorne, a vigilante young woman who eliminates individuals accused of preying on others sexually.
She shared with Page Six that it’s uncommon to come across scripts featuring a female serial killer fixated on Joan of Arc, which she found exceptional and compelling. She expressed her enthusiasm about being part of this unique project by saying she wanted to contribute positively to it.
She expressed her enthusiasm for psychological thrillers to The Independent, saying, “It was revolutionary feminist movie-making!” in an excited tone.

The piece is exploratory and vivid, far from portraying Clare as a victim. Instead, it beautifully captures the theme of maternal protection, which I find profoundly appealing, and I’m honored to be chosen to embody this character.
When De Mornay initially read the script several years back, she failed to recognize any similarities with contemporary happenings, such as the ongoing speculation surrounding potential names on the alleged Jeffrey Epstein’s clientele list.
She acknowledged that she hadn’t considered it before, expressing surprise by saying, “That’s quite an intriguing point! I didn’t expect something like that to be relevant… Frankly, it caught me off guard when I encountered it while reading.
Saint Clare is available for streaming on Apple TV and Amazon Video.
