George Lucas to make first-ever Comic-Con Hall H appearance

The San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is preparing for one of its most significant events yet. For the very first time, George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, will take the stage at Hall H. As reported by The Wrap, Lucas will team up with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and creative director Doug Chiang from the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in a panel moderated by Queen Latifah, set to occur on Sunday, July 27.

Entitled “A Glimpse into the Lucas Museum of Story Art,” this event is not primarily focused on upcoming Star Wars ventures, but rather showcases George Lucas’s longstanding love for narrative storytelling through various visual mediums. The panel promises an exploration spanning from ancient cave drawings to contemporary comics, digital art, and sculpture, with a focus on how narratives influence culture.

In the words of Comic-Con’s senior communications officer David Glanzer, it seems like history returning home as George Lucas made one of his first public appearances here almost five decades ago. Now, with Mr. Lucas coming back to unveil the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, we are truly experiencing a complete loop, a moment that brings us full circle.

In 1977, George Lucas unveiled his space epic at the nascent stage of Comic-Con; now, he’s back to illuminate how his narrative crafting and universe creation align with age-old artistic traditions that span across millennia.

In contrast to previous years filled with major movie announcements and long queues, this year, the focus of Hall H has changed significantly. Instead, you won’t find any Star Wars, Marvel, or DC movies as usual, with Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios opting out from their typical Hall H presentation.

Currently, the segment featuring George Lucas is generating a great deal of excitement among fans, as it provides a glimpse into the inspirations and passions that shaped the creator of the Star Wars universe.

2025 can’t come soon enough for me, as I eagerly anticipate the grand opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park! For years now, this project has been a labor of love for George Lucas, and it promises to be nothing short of spectacular.

This museum won’t just be a treasure trove for Star Wars memorabilia; it will also showcase an extensive collection of artwork that highlights the rich history of visual storytelling. In his own words, George described it as a “museum of inspirational art,” emphasizing that narrative art has been overlooked and underappreciated in the broader artistic landscape.

I can’t wait to immerse myself in this celebration of storytelling through art!

George Lucas’s first-ever panel at SDCC is expected to be a significant milestone. This event celebrates the artistic heritage of Star Wars and the creative storytelling that only the Hall’s limelight can highlight. For fans who have speculated if Lucas would return to the spotlight (his appearance at this year’s Met Gala alongside his wife, Mellody Hobson, hinted at it), your wait is over.
