All 11 Star Wars movies ranked by rewatchability

It’s not true that all Star Wars movies are equally enjoyable when re-watched; in fact, certain ones become more appealing with repeated viewings. Regardless of whether you’re a passionate fan or just an occasional viewer, specific installments in the series invite multiple viewings. It could be due to the storyline’s rhythm, the characters, the thrilling scenes, or even an iconic lightsaber battle that lingers in your mind – yes, I’m referring to Darth Maul.

Some films, especially those like “Star Wars”, are watched only once, not to be revisited again afterward.

It’s clear that there are numerous rankings of Star Wars films available online, including our very own which compares their ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. However, surprisingly, The Last Jedi is placed fourth in this list.

That can’t be right. Can it?

Today, we’ll be evaluating and comparing all 11 live-action Star Wars movies, ranging from those you can’t resist rewatching to those that may not quite hold up over time. Join us as we discover which tales from this distant galaxy continue to stand the test of timelessness.

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Wow, here I come! There are some older fellows (I can say that since I’m forty) who will fiercely defend the idea that “The Empire Strikes Back” is the best Star Wars movie. I won’t argue with them, because both films could easily take the top spot. But when it comes to choosing which one we prioritize, we lean towards rewatchability over overall quality. For me, “Rogue One” just has an undeniable charm that makes me want to watch it again and again.

2. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Absolutely,

Yes, this could be the top pick, but since it’s my personal list, I set the criteria. However, this movie is packed with so many legendary scenes that choosing a favorite was challenging: the confrontation between Luke and Vader, the revelation of their family connection, Han Solo’s memorable lines like “I know” and “Never tell me the odds,” and even Chewbacca overpowering Lando. It’s such a timeless film that it felt a little painful to rank it as number two.

But hey, why not give it another watch and share your thoughts?

3. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

Among all the prequels, it stands out as the most exceptional one. I’d gladly watch Anakin and Obi-Wan’s duel numerous times again. And let me tell you, the initial space battle scene is something to behold! However, once we reach “Nooooo…”, it might be best to switch off.

4. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

A grand space conflict has been confirmed. Cute Ewoks defeating Imperial troops? Affirmed. Luke Skywalker, now truly a Jedi, experiences his first moments as one? You bet!

5. Episode IV: A New Hope

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Han Solo (Harrison Ford).

From the beginning itself, this is a timeless masterpiece. For the very first time, we are introduced to the team, witness an unforgettable opening scene that stands tall among cinematic history, and catch glimpses of the most recognizable spaceship in the Star Wars universe (though it’s not what you assume; learn more here).

6. Episode I: The Phantom Menace

What I meant was the movie’s ability to be watched again, not its overall quality. Let me emphasize this point since the film offers quite a thrilling ride. Despite some questionable elements like Jar Jar Binks or young Anakin inadvertently destroying the Droid Battlestation, it still features exciting aspects such as pod racing, Darth Maul, and Liam Neeson portraying a Jedi. The ups and downs of this movie are truly exhilarating.

7. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Let’s keep our voices down, okay? I can clearly understand what you’re saying. This film might not seem great at first glance, but I think it’s worth another look. It has some truly impressive action scenes and visuals, even if it’s a bit over-the-top. I’d recommend giving it another chance.

8. Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Let’s agree that the prequels were not their finest hour. If you’re up for a rewatch, take a look at Obi-Wan’s fight with Boba Fett. He takes a tumble, then gets back up, much like an individual of forty years might. As for Kenobi’s infamous line about sand, one can’t help but wonder how it could have been more impactful.

9. Episode VII: The Force Awakens

Alright, we’re off! We’ve arrived at something special: the cream of the crop, or should I say, the worst of the best? Some folks might argue these films don’t exist, but I beg to differ. It’s crucial that we recall them so history doesn’t repeat itself. The anticipation and potential were through the roof! I was smitten with Rey in this one, not to mention Finn and Poe. Even Kylo Ren had his moments, like when he froze that blaster bolt – talk about cool!

However, recreating A New Hope with a larger Death Star wasn’t the right move.

10. Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

Is it you once again raising your voice? And you’re concerned that Darth Sidious returned in the storyline, but it doesn’t overshadow or take the limelight away from this current film? Let me clarify, that revelation has more to do with the upcoming movie than it does with this one.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.

11. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

I’ve just got to say, I don’t feel like discussing it right now. They really gave Luke a raw deal in this film. Then came the “Superman Leia” scene, and we were treated to the most sluggish space chase ever. Ugh…

But when Holdo executed that hyperspace jump through the Supremacy? That was just perfect! It might have been the best visual in almost any Star Wars movie. But one stunning image doesn’t make up for everything else that went wrong with this film.

Now, it seems someone here disagrees with me on that point.
