I Loved M3GAN 2.0 And I’m Not Afraid To Say It
I have some views about M3GAN 2.0 that not everyone may share, and to be honest, it seems that many people are neutral or undecided about the new film.
If one is familiar with me, they would realize that I have an immense passion for horror films. Excitement for the upcoming movies in 2025 is already building up, but let me assure you, horror remains at the top of my list due to its special place in my heart.
Nevertheless, M3GAN 2.0 deviated from the typical horror movie format, potentially leading to its underperformance at the box office. Yet, this departure from tradition aligns perfectly with the franchise, and I’m about to explain why.
The First Film, In General, Was Campy Horror
When the initial M3GAN film hit theaters, it was praised for being an entertaining, campy horror flick suitable for all audiences due to its PG-13 rating. Consequently, more people were able to watch it, and it ultimately proved successful, earning approximately 180 million dollars.
Initially, I wasn’t particularly fond of the initial M3GAN movie. The unrated version does provide some additional thrilling deaths, but there were certain elements that felt uncomfortable to me for a while. I yearned for more graphic violence and chaos since the character transformation in M3GAN later on is truly chilling.
Despite my personal feelings towards the movie, it proved to be successful. Learning that the next installment of M3GAN, initially classified as a horror film, was transitioning into an action series piqued my interest. Intrigued, I decided to give it a watch and must confess, I found myself enjoying it far more than anticipated.

The Second Movie Really Didn’t Take Itself Too Seriously, Which Made It Fun
For me, as a movie enthusiast, what enhances the enjoyment of watching M3GAN 2.0 is its lighthearted approach, never losing sight of humor throughout.
In simpler terms, many people might argue that the initial film was scary because it was over-the-top and humorously terrifying. I understand this perspective, but for me, when watching M3GAN, I was so engrossed in its meme-like quality that when it tried to be frightening, I didn’t find it particularly scary.
In contrast to the first movie, this sequel tells an entirely new tale. The challenge here is that another AI robot is causing chaos, and M3GAN is called upon to neutralize it since the roboт is essentially her programming. It’s a thrilling blend of science fiction, action, and hints of horror. This mix makes for a more entertaining and humorous film overall.
In my humble opinion as a movie reviewer, M3GAN manages to transform into a robot hero without losing the charm and wit that initially won us over. What’s more, the sequel delves deeper into her programming dynamics, particularly with Cady, offering an explanation beyond the cliché “murder doll because of bonding and programming.” Instead, it presents a unique perspective that left me pleasantly surprised.

It Was Nice For The Story To Include Other Characters Aside From Cady And Gemma
In this film, something particularly enjoyable for me was the inclusion of amusing supporting characters, which in fact were either newly presented or revisited, if you follow my drift.
Watching Cady and Gemma is enjoyable, as both Violet McGraw and Allison Williams are exceptional actresses who exhibit a strong connection on screen. It’s delightful to witness Cady’s maturation process, but the repetitive nature of delving into the aunt-niece-turned-daughter relationship may have its limits.
In the film, although Cole, portrayed by Brian Jordan Alvarez, is a significant character, neither his storyline nor his persona serves as the central theme or dominant character. On the contrary, I found Cole particularly engaging.
Initially, in the first movie, he appeared as a colleague of Gemma’s, but our interaction with him was minimal, if not as substantial as this time. In the current film, however, he provided some hilarious scenes that left me doubled over laughing. Similarly, Jen Van Epps, portraying Tess, brought additional humor to the mix, enhancing the dynamic between her, Gemma, and themselves, making their performances more enjoyable overall.
It’s the side-characters that did it for me this time around.

Plus, Somehow, M3GAN Was Funnier In This One, Sorry Not Sorry
To be honest, I found M3GAN funnier on this viewing compared to the original. Don’t get me wrong, the initial movie is okay, but it seems to focus too heavily on horror. In my opinion, it could have been a great mix of comedy and horror if given the opportunity. It wasn’t destined to be the best horror film ever made, but with more humor, it could have stood out as one of the best horror comedies.
In the upcoming sequel, M3GAN truly outshines with an extra dose of sassiness that I can’t help but adore. What makes it even more remarkable is the impeccable line delivery by Jenna Davis, who manages to infuse so much character into a robot voice, something I never thought was possible. It’s truly a marvel to witness!
Since M3GAN shifted focus from horror towards sci-fi/action, she now has ample opportunity to be humorous, delivering some surprisingly laugh-out-loud moments that distinguish her from the previous movie. One particularly memorable instance is a prolonged sequence where she sings to Gemma, which was so funny it had me in stitches. Despite its length, this scene is etched in my memory as one of the most entertaining parts of the film.

Overall, I Really Enjoyed It, And I Think Others Will Too, As Long As They Know What They’re Getting Into Once It’s On Streaming
M3GAN 2.0 deserves more love than it has gotten.
As a movie reviewer, I found myself pondering the potential transformation of M3GAN 2.0 into an R-rated horror masterpiece. While the current version is undeniably entertaining, a darker, scarier approach would have certainly added an intriguing dimension. Nevertheless, if they’re sticking with this path, I must say that it delivers in all the right ways – it’s laugh-out-loud funny, delightfully campy, and packs enough action scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
Is it similar to “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”? Not at all. But instead, it cleverly subverts the genre with a humorous twist.
The film has a light-hearted tone, which is one of its strengths. If viewers are aware of this ahead of time, I can imagine it gaining popularity on the internet.
It’s uncertain whether we’ll see M3GAN 3.0 due to the ticket sales of the second film, but should they decide to make another one, I’m ready and eager to join.
