Jennifer Love Hewitt reveals she hasn’t spoken to Sarah Michelle Gellar in 27 YEARS… amid rumors of a rift

Jennifer Love Hewitt has addressed her friendship with Sarah Michelle Gellar. 

It appeared as if Hewitt was taken aback by the gossip suggesting a disagreement between her and her I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star.

Rumors of a strained relationship between Hewitt and Gellar emerged following their absence from posing together at the July 14 Los Angeles premiere of the rebooted project.

In a conversation with Vulture, Hewitt expressed his bewilderment about the situation, admitting he’s unsure of its origin and nature.

She questioned, “It seems to me that people prefer complex narratives over simple ones. Why is it that we’re so often at odds with one another instead of supporting each other?

She then admitted that she has not seen Gellar in 28 years.

As a die-hard fan, I must confess that I haven’t had the pleasure of crossing paths with Sarah, the radiant star of 9-1-1, since I last saw her at the premiere of the first movie when I was just 18. It’s been a long time between conversations, but that’s what makes our current situation so amusing to me!

She mentioned that those around her suggested she join the debate, but she replied, “What should I say? I haven’t met her before.

In the latest installment of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” now playing in cinemas, the actress, aged 46, once again embodies a mature and insightful version of her character Julie James.

Gellar’s husband Freddie Prinze Jr is Jennifer’s costar. 

Spectators found it peculiar that Hewitt posted the trailer for the latest horror movie on social platforms without acknowledging her previous acting partner.

Hewitt said all is fine, however.

‘On my side, we’re good. I have no idea where this is coming from,’ she asserted.

At the movie premiere, Gellar posted a sequence of pictures on social platforms, apparently aiming to quell the rumors too.

She mentioned that she didn’t get a chance to meet Jennifer Love Hewitt, who was amazing in the film. (Jennifer Love Hewitt is fantastic in the movie.)

‘I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened,’ she explained.

‘And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.’

The individual, who dislikes horror movies, is optimistic that the latest release will perform exceptionally well, potentially requiring her involvement once more.

That’s ‘the goal and the hope,’ she said.

In the 2025 film, only Gellar’s spouse, Prinze Jr (age 49), remains as an original cast member from the 1997 movie.

Just one original cast member from the 1997 movie is returning in the 2025 film, and that’s Gellar’s husband, Prinze Jr (aged 49).

He told People, ‘I’m really proud of the work that Love and I got to do on screen.’ 

She asserted that among the three films we worked on jointly, this one is undoubtedly our finest effort. I also believe there’s a significant gap between its quality and that of the other two.

Reflecting on Hewitt’s attachment to Julie, he expressed, ‘I understand how significant this character is to her. She pours her heart into this role and has done so right from the beginning of the series.’
