As a gaming enthusiast, diving headfirst into the captivating world of “Bookish”, the latest period detective drama masterminded by Mark Gatiss, I can’t help but feel utterly captivated by its massive appeal to viewers.
In the U&Alibi collection, Gatiss plays the role of Gabriel Book, an unconventional accountant who aids the police in resolving diverse crimes set in 1940s London. Yet, their partnership is filled with peril due to Gabriel’s secretive homosexuality.
After the debut of the first two episodes on Wednesday (July 16), it appears that the show “Bookish” has resonated with viewers as reported by “Broadcast”, with a total of 270,000 viewers tuning in.
In this time period, the viewership significantly exceeded the 43,000 benchmark, reaching an impressive 202,000 viewers. Additionally, viewers chose to stay tuned for the subsequent episode, which also saw a substantial increase over the usual 45,000, with a total of 202,000 viewers.
As a dedicated fan, I can confidently say that the impressive viewership numbers are undoubtedly pleasing to UKTV, who had already greenlit a second season for our beloved detective drama way back in May – an astounding move two whole months before the series’ premiere even graced our screens.
Gatiss is excited that U&Alibi’s team is giving him another chance to delve into the realm of ‘Bookish’ and cook up more intricate mysteries for Gabriel Book and his team to untangle,” said he. “I can hardly wait for audiences to step into the universe we’ve constructed.
This month, we’ve already made updates for the second season, and filming for the new episodes will start soon. As for the storyline, it hasn’t been revealed yet, but the main actors will return to their characters.
Labeled as a “unique take on period detective dramas”, Gatiss is accompanied by Polly Walker, Joely Richardson, Daniel Mays, Elliot Levey, Connor Finch, and Blake Harrison in the cast. Gatiss, most recognized for his role in Sherlock, collaborated with Matthew Sweet on writing the series.
