Shock as another Channel Nine reporter farewells the network

A well-known broadcaster from Channel Nine is preparing to say goodbye to the network, only a day after 9News Melbourne journalist Lana Murphy announced her maternity leave due to an unexpected incident during a live broadcast.

On-air Friday, Iza Staskowski reported from a Melbourne creek discolored due to a chemical leak. In the course of her report, she announced that she would be taking maternity leave as well.

Karl Stefanovic, prior to our departure, would like to extend his warmest wishes to you as we possibly head towards the hospital.

‘How are you feeling?’

Iza, who joined the breakfast program in 2019, beamed with anticipation ahead of her farewell.

In a few weeks, the journalist based in Melbourne, along with her partner Drew Jones, will welcome their first baby into their lives.

Iza donned a vibrant red coat that concealed her shape when captured by the camera, yet she subtly drew it aside to showcase her growing belly to the audience, all while holding onto the microphone.

Feeling fantastic, fortunate, and incredibly thrilled about the upcoming phase with my partner Drew and our baby, I shared this news with the team in the studio,” she expressed.

Today, Karl and Sarah Abo unexpectedly presented Iza with a big bunch of flowers and a wrapped Today show onesie as she became the latest addition to our family.

Or,

Today’s co-hosts, Karl and Sarah Abo, took Iza by surprise, giving her a beautiful bouquet of flowers and an adorable Today show onesie, welcoming her as the newest member of our team.

‘It’s so exciting, Iza, we are absolutely pumped for you,’ Karl said.

‘You look beautiful,’ Sarah added.

You two will make fantastic parents, truly exceptional ones. Today marks the start of your maternity leave, and we’ll dearly miss you during this time.

Iza could barely contain her joy as she was handed the thoughtful presents.

‘Mat leave starts right now!’ she enthused. ‘Thank you guys so much.’

‘We love you, Iza,’ Karl added.

Appreciate all your effort so far! Wishing you the best of luck as you face new challenges over the upcoming weeks.

‘We couldn’t think of a better place to send you today than to a toxic algae outbreak,’ he joked.

In just two days, two reporters from Melbourne have left the Nine network – most recently Iza, followed by Lana Murphy who said goodbye on Thursday.

On a Wednesday evening, Lana, aged 31, posted on Instagram that she would be taking maternity leave, following closely on the heels of an incident where she unintentionally forgot her script during a live broadcast and improvised with humorous results.

Lana shared a collection of pictures, among them was one where she displayed her expanding belly while delivering the weather report.

In the picture, the reporter shone with joy when she revealed she was going to take a break to ready herself for her upcoming second child.

As I take a brief hiatus from my position at Nine News Melbourne on the east coast, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation!

‘Last post, bathroom mirror selfie, PTC and goodbye. It was fantastic collaborating with some incredible people I admire deeply. Truly a dream come true.’

‘Best wishes for what’s coming, Lana! Cheers,’ wrote fellow presenter Peter Hitchener.

Today show co-host Sarah Abo also posted a love heart emoji.

In their family, Lana and her partner, Nick Riddle, are expecting their second child. They currently have a young son named Bowie together.

Lana left after an amusing hiccup on live television, where she accidentally skipped over her script and improvised instead – an error that appeared to make audiences like her even more.

She took to TikTok last week to own up to her mistake.

Lana posted a video where she discussed the school break activities happening in Melbourne, giving off an appearance of being harmless.

The segment quickly derailed when Lana clearly forgot her script.

It appears that her improvisational skills might require improvement, as the reporter seemed to blurt out a series of meaningless connectors.

She mentioned that they would provide a comprehensive collection of potential school holiday activities.

‘Dib-a-dib-a-dib-a-dib-a-doo’ was all Lana could muster before finally getting back on track.
