Murder and burglary charges filed in fatal shooting of ‘American Idol’ executive and husband

On Thursday, a 22-year-old individual faced charges for the murder of an “American Idol” music supervisor and her spouse, a musician, who were found dead at their residence in Encino following a break-in.

In my perspective as a movie reviewer, the gripping tale unfolds with the allegation against Raymond Boodarian of the tragic shooting incident involving Robin Kaye and her husband Tom DeLuca on July 10. However, it wasn’t until four days later, following a welfare check, that the LAPD discovered their bodies, which had remained hidden within their home.

Boodarian stands accused of two counts of murder, which are alleged to have occurred during a robbery, involving the use of a firearm and multiple victims. Additionally, he is charged with burglary. If found guilty, Boodarian could be sentenced to life imprisonment without parole or face capital punishment if the prosecution chooses to pursue it.

Police reports indicate that officers paid a visit to Boodarian’s residence in Encino, when it was thought he was present there.

At 4 p.m. on July 10, the LAPD received a call about a potential burglary at a home. Upon investigation, Lieutenant Guy Golan stated that everything seemed normal at the residence of the couple.

Patrol officers walking by found the building secured and no signs of activity within, whereas an overhead police helicopter failed to spot any unusual occurrences.

On Monday, officers investigating a wellness visit found the bodies of Kaye and DeLuca in their residence on White Oak Avenue, located in the 4700 block. The next day, a combined team from the LAPD and FBI apprehended Boodarian.

On Monday, Robin Kaye, the music supervisor for ‘American Idol’, was tragically discovered to have been shot and killed at a residence in Encino. Authorities have since reported an arrest, according to information obtained by The Times.

As reported by the police, Kaye (an “American Idol” music supervisor) and her rock musician husband, DeLuca, were on their way back to their $4.5-million house in Encino, when they unexpectedly found Booderian already within the residence.

It is reported that Booderian supposedly fired several shots at Kaye and DeLuca before fleeing, leaving the door locked behind him. Despite their home being strongly protected, authorities noted that the intruder had somehow entered through an unsecured entrance.

As reported by Golan, our department received a call at 4 p.m., on the day the couple met their tragic end. The caller claimed they had seen an individual scaling a fence onto the property. Golan stated that officers were dispatched to the residence but found no response and noticed nothing amiss. Due to the property’s challenging accessibility, a helicopter was deployed for an overhead inspection.

Subsequently, LAPD officials confirmed that the couple was sadly deceased. Approximately 30 minutes later, Boodarian chose to depart, according to the police.

According to LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, officers who responded to two different emergency calls concerning violent attacks didn’t initially go into the places where the victims, who were later discovered murdered, were located.

In both Kaye and DeLuca’s cases, as well as two other murders in the Valley, there was a similar delay in locating the victims after authorities were summoned to the scene, only to eventually depart without finding anyone.

On the 26th of April, the lifeless body of Menashe Hidra was discovered within his fifth-floor apartment in Valley Village. It appears that an attacker forced entry into a nearby apartment, leapt from the balcony onto Hidra’s unit, and brutally assaulted him, as investigators have reported.

Three days ago, neighbors phoned emergency services due to hearing shouting and a scuffle originating from the apartment. Police arrived in response but found nothing upon knocking on the door. It was later discovered that Erick Escamilla, aged 27, was accused of this murder, as well as an unrelated homicide that occurred in 2022.

On the same day that Hidra’s corpse was uncovered, authorities stumbled upon the body of Aleksandre Modebadze, who had been brutally murdered in his Woodland Hills residence. In this particular incident, a woman within the home, identified as LAPD sources, dialed 12:30 a.m. and reported a break-in, with three individuals assaulting her partner before the call was abruptly disconnected. The 911 operator attempted to reconnect numerous times without success. Just before 1 a.m., police officers arrived at the residence but received no response at the door, heard no sounds within, and noticed the blinds were drawn – as reported by The Times’ sources.

Later on, officers discovered Modebadze severely injured, with a critical head trauma, from which he ultimately passed away. The authorities managed to locate the individuals believed to have caused his death shortly following the incident.

In the Encino incident, Golan stated that the investigation would focus on why the elderly couple, aged 70, weren’t discovered sooner, and if the responding officers behaved properly. LAPD representatives explained that the entrance to the house wasn’t noticeable from the exterior during the initial response.

Last year, Boodarian faced three allegations of misdemeanor battery, as documented by court records. However, these charges were eventually dismissed due to proceedings concerning his mental fitness and an investigation into the establishment of a conservatorship.
