Siobhan Finneran fans won’t want to miss her “unnerving” horror that will “chill you to the bone”
Fans of Siobhan Finneran might be interested in streaming her chilling horror film, titled “The Damned“.
The movie, launched recently, centers around a character named Eva (portrayed by Odessa Young), a widow living in Iceland during the late 19th century, who along with her fellow villagers, must grapple with a difficult decision after a shipwreck occurs nearby their settlement.
Faced with a severe winter, they had to make a tough choice: either rescue the crew who were low on numbers and risking their already scant resources, or let them be in order to survive the winter themselves.

As a gamer, I’m excited to be part of the stellar cast for “The Damned”, joining forces with Finneran from “Happy Valley”, Young from “The Order”, Joe Cole from “Gangs of London”, Rory McCann known for his role in “Game of Thrones”, Francis Magee starring in “Kin”, Turlough Convery who graced our screens in “Killing Eve”, Lewis Gribben hailing from “Black Mirror”, and the talented Mícheál Óg Lane from “Calvary”.
The movie hails from the direction of Thordur Palsson, known for his work on “The Valhalla Murders,” and he was also the mind behind its storyline. On the other hand, the script was penned by Jamie Hannigan, a writer recognized for his work in “The Woman in the Wall.
If you’re eager to experience the chilling atmosphere of ‘The Damned’, a folk horror film, then you’re in for a treat! The movie has recently been made available on Sky Cinema and NOW, provided you have a Sky Cinema membership. It was re-added to their platforms back in May.
If you’re eager to explore more of Finneran’s artistic offerings, the enchanting British series “Pond Life” is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, her film “The Selfish Giant” can be watched by fans via a Prime Video channel on Curzon, or on Channel 4.
Last year’s premiere of The Damned garnered significant praise from critics, maintaining a high rating of 90% freshness on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Daily Beast described it as “compact, witty, and unsettling,” implying it’s an ideal movie for the approaching winter season. On the other hand, Next Best Picture referred to it as a “moody journey into the abyss of darkness” that could make you shiver, even during the hottest days of summer.
IndieWire noted that this is a gradual, chilling piece of psychological horror that delves deeper into the human ability to feel guilt rather than focusing on startling moments or graphic violence.
Previously, Palsson shared that the production of “The Damned” took eight long years to complete. He attributed this project to his experiences residing in a quaint Icelandic coastal village during that period.
He reminisced about being trapped by snow during winter, not quite as depicted in the movie, but his car became immobilized in the driveway, giving him a sense of what it felt like to be stranded somewhere unfamiliar, in a town where he didn’t know many people.
That’s where I first jotted down my initial concept. I encountered some individuals there and listened to captivating tales from fishermen regarding what transpires when vessels are trapped in perilous storms, and how it turns out that one is not permitted to venture out and rescue them; instead, one must remain on land until the tempest subsides.
In addition, I came across tales about people relocating the beacon from a single lighthouse to a precipice, causing ships to crash onto the rocks, along with other ancient Icelandic legends. This is where the story began to gain momentum.
The film is produced by companies like Ley Line Entertainment, known for previous successful movies such as “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Green Knight.
The Damned is streaming now on Sky Cinema and NOW (with Sky Cinema membership).
The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available now! You can grab a copy at your local newsstands or purchase it online for only £8.99.
