Call the Midwife’s “exotic” Christmas special gets exciting update from cast

Call the Midwife has shared an exciting update on the upcoming Christmas Special.

The filming process has begun for the holiday-themed episode of our period drama, taking place in both Poplar and Hong Kong.

The thrilling announcement was made on the show’s formal Instagram account, accompanied by a picture showing the cast and team preparing to shoot in Hong Kong.

The post was titled: “It was announced earlier this year that the 2025 ‘Call the Midwife’ Christmas Special would take place in both Poplar and Hong Kong. Last week, some of our team secretly traveled to film the eastern part of the holiday tale!

“To kick off an exciting overseas shooting journey, what could be more fitting than a classic clapperboard photo!

According to our team’s update, it’s quite warm and muggy outside, yet spirits are soaring, and the tasks at hand are proving quite thrilling.

For the coming days, we’ll share news and advancements about our cast in Hong Kong. Be sure to stay tuned!

The 15th season of the BBC drama is coming soon, anticipated for early 2026. This season will center around the women’s liberation movement.

Additionally, there’s a movie and a prequel TV series upcoming, transporting fans right back to World War II.

Expressing excitement about the fresh endeavor, Heidi Thomas OBE remarked in a statement: “Opening up new opportunities at Nonnatus House carries a deep emotional resonance and seems perfectly fitting.

I always have plenty of stories to share with our midwives, and I always will. After experiencing a range of emotions from 1957 to 1971, I developed a strong desire to explore the more distant past. The years of the Blitz in the East End were remarkable – characterized by loss, unity, bravery, and happiness.

Bombs exploded, yet births continued, and the Nuns persevered. Our cherished, dedicated followers can anticipate a wealth of content in the prequel, featuring the return of some recognizable characters, albeit significantly younger.
