X-Men star speaks out over horrific murder of friend

Shawn Ashmore, known for playing X-Men, and his spouse, Dana, are honoring their deceased friend, Mei Li Haskell, as the individual believed to have murdered her and her parents ended his life.

Ashmore, 45, and his wife, 42, expressed that while their hearts are filled with sorrow, they find solace in a tiny measure of resolution, following the suicide of suspect Sam Haskell IV.

Ashmore and his spouse expressed, “We’re deeply grieving the passing of a remarkable mother, someone who selflessly devoted herself to her three sons, always placing their needs before hers.

After authorities from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office verified that Canadian actor Haskell took his own life while in custody, he and his partner publicly announced their statement.

The pair were unable to discuss the case openly because it was still under legal proceedings, according to TMZ’s report on Tuesday. They had been collaborating with authorities regarding their late companion, Mei Li.

Back in 2022, I stumbled upon an extraordinary individual named Mei Li when my children and her kids were attending schools in the LA area. What a serendipitous encounter that has since become a significant part of our lives!

She was often referred to as a remarkable mother, known for being consistently there, full of love, and selflessly giving.

On Monday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced through a press statement that officials discovered Haskell’s unresponsive body in his designated cell at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Authorities have not yet announced a specific cause of death for Haskell.

Instead of facing trial for the crimes he was accused of, the defendant somehow evaded receiving justice. (Nathan Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney)

This represents a final, inhumane action from an individual known for committing unspeakable acts, whose motivations remain partially shrouded in mystery.

Hochman stated that Haskell’s suicide before standing trial may have denied the families of his victims opportunities for healing and closure, as they were prevented from expressing to him the extent of the harm he inflicted.

A family who have suffered an unbearable tragedy are denied the opportunity to confront the perpetrator, seek justice for his heinous acts, and publicly express their sorrow and remember their deceased loved ones, as stated by Hochman.
