Adolescence star makes TV history with record-breaking nomination
Adolescence star Owen Cooper has made history at this year’s Primetime Emmy awards nominations.
The fifteen-year-old actor received the youngest nomination in history, in the exceptional supporting actor category for a limited or anthology series, for playing a thirteen-year-old suspected of murder, named Jamie.
Cooper is put forward for an award together with his co-star Ashley Walters from the show “Adolescence”, along with Javier Bardem (from “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”), Bill Camp (from “Presumed Innocent”), Rob Delaney (from “Dying for Sex”), and Peter Sarsgaard (also from “Presumed Innocent”).

The adolescent series has also secured a nomination for a selection or limited series category, with Stephen Graham, Erin Doherty, and Christine Tremarco each being recognized individually for their outstanding acting performances.
As I was honored by Deadline for my nomination, let me tell you, it’s surreal! This year has been nothing short of amazing – the best one yet! Now that things are wrapping up, I’m looking forward to getting back to some semblance of everyday life again.
There has been much interest and anticipation surrounding the possibility of a sequel to the highly praised teen drama “Adolescence,” which became very popular on Netflix.
In an interview conducted in May, Graham, a collaborator on the series with Jack Thorne, discussed potential directions for a sequel.
As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but ponder the question: Would I jump at the chance to experience this all over again, with an entirely new tale unfolding? Absolutely, I’d embrace that opportunity!
In an unconventional approach to our storytelling, Graham clarified that rather than viewing the series through the eyes of the victim’s family (Katie), “we chose not to delve into the immediate fallout on Katie’s loved ones, offering a different perspective instead.
However, it seemed to me that we would’ve anticipated such an occurrence. We’ve encountered similar situations numerous times. What we haven’t witnessed yet is this particular aspect.
Adolescence is streaming on Netflix.
