Ashley Walters was nominated for his first Emmy Award, recognizing his exceptional performance as DI Luke Bascombe in the popular Netflix show ‘Adolescence’.
On Tuesday, the Emmy nominations were revealed, and a four-part series garnered a remarkable 13 nominations, dominating the awards landscape.
Ashley has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Movie, sharing this recognition with his fellow actor Owen Cooper.
If the 15-year-old student from Warrington wins the award at the “TV Oscars”, he will be the youngest male victor in its 76-year history.
Regarding his nomination, Ashley expressed his excitement: “What an honor! This nomination feels incredibly significant to me – it’s not just about recognition, but also serves as a powerful reminder of the journey I’ve undertaken.
It’s dedicated to all those who stayed with me during my ups and downs, who had faith in me when I was at my lowest points.

This illustrates the strength of persistence. While dreams matter greatly, it’s the relentless effort, the obstacles overcome, the personal development, and the unwavering dedication that turn them into reality.
Five years back, this seemed unattainable. Now, I’m immensely proud – not just personally, but to be among artists I hold in high esteem.
Experiencing the creation we built jointly has left an indelible mark on me, and witnessing its validation at this scale feels incredibly meaningful and unique.
I am deeply grateful to the Emmys for bestowing upon me this nomination. A heartfelt thanks goes out to my wife and children, who keep me grounded and provide me with purpose. My sincere appreciation also extends to my family and friends, who serve as my foundation.
To my diligent colleagues who’ve been working relentlessly in the background, and to each member of our extraordinary cast and crew, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your genius and compassion. This triumphant moment belongs to every one of us.
In addition, the show has been recognized with a nomination for the category of Best Limited or Anthology Series, sharing this honor with Black Mirror, Dying for Sex, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and The Penguin.
In the television series, it was depicted that Jamie Miller’s perspective towards girls underwent a significant shift due to the online content he was exposed to. Additionally, it highlighted the substantial amount of social media usage among teenagers during their school hours.
Earlier, Ashley mentioned that during the making of the series, he discovered some insights which prompted him to limit his youngest child’s screen usage.
He stated: ‘[In our role as parents], we aim to encourage and foster what they are passionate about. He is an animator, hence he utilizes numerous animation tools on his iPad and dedicates his time to it.

Occasionally, he seems less active than expected, leading us to reduce his screen time as a precaution.
On half the days of the week, he avoids using his device. In essence, I find myself assuming a parental role and suggesting activities like fishing or other outings, aiming to reduce his screen time since he prefers spending less time online than he currently does.
Instead of being the strict parent who says, “Alright, that’s enough, time to turn off everything,” one might choose to phrase it as, “Let’s wrap up for today. It’s time to power down and relax.
I want them to avoid feeling less than their peers. Parenting can sometimes get overwhelming with comparison, but this show seems to help parents think, ‘Forget all that noise.’ It feels like it offers a chance for that.
‘During adolescence, it’s possible for such an event to occur. Let’s now delve into this topic together.’ Being open about it sounds great.
