Well, folks, I’ve got some not-so-great news for all you Hocus Pocus fans out there. Sarah Jessica Parker recently shared that the progress on a third movie isn’t moving as quickly as we might like. So, let’s keep our broomsticks crossed and hope for some speedy developments!
After the commercial success of Hocus Pocus 2 in 2022, Disney swiftly approved a follow-up. In June 2023, then-president Sean Bailey officially announced that plans for a third movie were underway, stating that it was indeed happening.
Approximately two years after Bailey’s appointment, there hasn’t been much progress on the project. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, Parker stated: “There haven’t been any further advancements, other than expressing our desire to move forward. We have been discussing it.
Parker’s remarks mirrored those of co-star Bette Midler, who stated on the The Jess Cagle Show in June 2024: “There have been discussions about a third film, but they’re being done quite subtly and cautiously. They are. There have been discussions about a third film. The second one was extremely successful.
Back in 1993, I stumbled upon a classic movie that took me on an unforgettable journey with Winnie (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary Sanderson (Kathy Najimy). These three witches, with their comically wicked charm, caused all sorts of mischief after they were accidentally resurrected.
In the second installment, solely available on Disney+, the witches made a comeback following almost thirty years, causing trouble for high school students as they aimed to exact vengeance upon those who had wronged them.
Previously, Hannah Waddingham shared that she hasn’t been asked to return as the Mother Witch in the upcoming third film, although she has expressed her enthusiasm for the chance to do so, following comments from both Parker and Midler regarding the project.
She expressed, “It’s great to see so much discussion, and I’m fully engaged. However, no one has asked me yet,” she shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “Oh, how exciting it would be! Honestly, I feel like I barely began to explore or even apply a fraction of an eyelash for her character.
There seems to be plenty more opportunities for the Mother Witch to create grand chaos, and I’m all for it! Firstly, Salvador Perez’s costume deserves another appearance without a doubt. Secondly, my cape – which they couldn’t cut – also needs another flamboyant wave. Last but not least, she should have a new song.
