Canadian musician trolled after calling off U.S. concerts to protest Trump policies: ‘American’s won’t notice!’

Canadian rock artist Matthew Good has called off a series of forthcoming U.S. concerts as a form of resistance against the political agenda advocated by President Donald Trump.

54-year-old musician from Burnaby, British Columbia, shared insights about his altered itinerary in cities like Buffalo, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, through the social media platform Facebook on a Friday.

The musician, known for songs like Decades and Hello Time Bomb, expressed to their US fans and friends, ‘I’ve made a personal choice that I can’t, with a clear conscience, perform my scheduled shows this summer in your country.’

Good stated, ‘I understand this situation isn’t fair to you, and I fully acknowledge that. However, let me be clear: each passing week, my contempt for the political situation deepens more.’

Speaking about Trump’s tariffs and other policies, Good expressed that he could not return to work in the U.S. unless significant political shifts occurred first. He also stated that he is prepared to jeopardize his future career in the United States to take a stance against current issues.

In the past six months following his second-term inauguration, Donald Trump’s stance on several matters has caused friction with Canada and its people. This includes his frequent comments implying that Canada is more like the 51st U.S. state.

Several X users criticized Good’s decision, with one user suggesting that the political justification might have been used as a cover-up because there seemed to be a lack of genuine interest.

In my fervent enthusiasm, I can’t help but echo those sentiments: “Oh boy, I feel for those fellow fans across the pond. I wonder how they’ll find solace after such an event.” *Sighs deeply, feeling the sting of a broken heart emoji.*

A user of X commented that the decision was primarily detrimental to the musician and those employed by the band financially. Moreover, they suggested that Americans would be indifferent to this change, one way or another.

A user mentioned that the place they were at was a 400-seat brew pub. Their date, unfortunately, found themselves caught in the middle of two events: trivia night and a cover band performance. It’s important to note that this wasn’t a Las Vegas residency.

On a social media platform, Good stated that he decided to terminate the performances following Canada’s Prime Minister, Mark Carney, withdrawing the proposed digital services tax against the U.S., allegedly as a gesture to appease President Trump.

Good stated that they’ve amassed roughly 2 billion dollars in earnings over time, but they are choosing to forfeit it all.

Good pointed out that with the significant rise in visa fees, the concern that despite obtaining visas, we might still be barred entry if we express criticism of the current Republican Party, leaves me in a position where I have to restrain myself from speaking freely, thus compromising any standing I had to voice my opinions honestly.

Good made it apparent that, given the present political situation, he felt compelled to take action to demonstrate his stance clearly.

It’s intolerable for me to remain silent as our wonderful nation seems to be coerced into relinquishing billions of potential income, often questioning whether the country to our south is more of an ally or a bully.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but express my agreement. It’s just as heart-wrenching for me to imagine backing an individual who has utterly corrupted the sanctity of art and culture in the United States, as it is to witness the tragic disintegration of these cherished institutions themselves.

Good made it clear that asking other artists to participate in the political demonstration alongside him wouldn’t be right, since he intended to focus his music career outside of his home country, Canada, for an extended period.

Good stated, “I’ve established a career in Canada that makes me incredibly proud, and for the next three years, I plan to invest even more into it. Furthermore, I warmly welcome all my fans from the United States to attend any of my shows taking place here.

Good suggested that enthusiasts of his music should rally their backing for the band Texas King, as they could potentially face significant financial difficulties due to the situation at hand.

‘So as a favour, we encourage you to get out and support them wherever you can!’ Good said.

Individuals who chose to cancel dates as a form of protest against President Trump’s policies, expressed that their lives have consistently revolved around political consciousness.

He stated, “Given that we may not all share the same perspective, let me make myself clear. This is my personal viewpoint.
