As a lifestyle guide, I’d like to share an unusual yet poignant situation unfolding in the personal lives of Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans, his ex-spouse. In the midst of their divisive divorce proceedings, Ioan has chosen to disclose a heartrending collection of messages penned by their daughters, Ella, aged 15, and Elsie, 11. These messages, undoubtedly, reveal the emotional turmoil that these young girls are experiencing during this challenging time.

In 2021, Gruffudd ended his 14-year marriage and later tied the knot with Bianca Wallace, an up-and-coming actress he met during the production of the Australian TV series Harrow, while he was still wed. They’re now anticipating a new addition to their family.

Ella, who had applied for a domestic violence restraining order against the actor following a dispute at his home during her initial visit (which was later dismissed by a judge), now angrily demands that he contribute towards the deposit for a new place to live.

In a single communication, she expresses concern that he has failed to provide them with necessary financial assistance, despite the fact that his daughters and former spouse are at risk of losing their apartment in Beverly Hills, California, due to unpaid rent.

Currently, Alice, Ella, and Elsie reside comfortably within the humble suburbs of Encino, nestled within the San Fernando valley region of Los Angeles.

Recently, Evans has been attending fan events related to her past acting work in shows like The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, primarily as a means of financial gain.

In one of the messages found in documents submitted by Gruffudd to the Los Angeles Superior Court during his and Evans’ divorce proceedings on Friday, their 15-year-old daughter Ella wrote to her father: “Mum works tirelessly and always takes care of us around the clock. You seem to be avoiding the fact that you don’t want to work. It’s not Mum’s fault; it’s yours. You left us, and now you can’t provide for us.

It’s crucial for you to secure employment, dad. Caring for your partner isn’t a job. You’ve been neglecting your duties as a father by not spending time with or communicating with your children. Even missing out on sending Christmas gifts is alarming. This behavior is disappointing and it’s apparent to everyone around you.

By the way, since we seem to have sufficient funds to ensure we never face homelessness, I find it puzzling that you don’t extend a helping hand. It seems your feelings towards Mom may overshadow your affection for us.

The teenage girl also requests him for help with securing funds to make a deposit on a new home. In a text message, she says, ‘Hey Dad, we need your assistance in finding a place to live.’ She explains that they have found several homes they love under $4000 but lack the necessary credit score or the required down payment. So, she asks him if he could consider helping them out.

In a more casual and informal manner, she asks for financial aid: “Hey, got some cash you could lend us? It’d really make our day if you did! You see, we’re going to be homeless in 17 days unless you can help us out. Could you spare anything?

In other writings, Elsie, her younger sibling, gets upset with their father due to his criticism of Evans through messages that were not visible or accessible to us.

Please avoid speaking disrespectfully to me and refrain from making derogatory comments about my mother, as it is inappropriate and against court rules. However, I have noticed that you often do this, which I find upsetting.

It’s completely unrealistic for me and Ella to consider living with you and Bianca, as your thoughts about my mother make both of us feel ill. She is the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful person in the world, and it’s heartbreaking to think that you want to harm her and us. I am deeply disappointed by your actions.

She additionally advises, ‘It’s crucial that we locate a responsible father figure, because it may haunt you when you recall the harm done to your children and their mother. My friends express concern for our situation and offer assistance, yet you seem indifferent.’

Gruffudd doesn’t include his responses to the girls in the documents filed to the court.

The actor claims he will disclose upsetting and troubling messages as proof that his ex-wife is falsely claiming a financial crisis and involving their children in this fabricated story. In a court declaration, he states: ‘I regretfully inform you that I have received numerous anxious messages from our children, who are repeating Alice’s false claim of imminent homelessness.’

It’s apparent to me that Alice seems to be controlling the unfolding events, and it appears she is doing so with the intention of coercing me into meeting her financial requests. The tumultuous dissolution of the Gruffudd-Evans marriage has been a prolonged spectacle, frequently enacted in the public eye on social media platforms.

At the beginning, in January 2021, when Ioan Gruffudd, the Welsh actor, announced his departure from their family on Twitter, Alice Evans expressed her feelings as follows: ‘My husband of 20 years, Ioan Gruffudd, has shared that he will be leaving our family starting next week. My daughters and I are feeling confused. We haven’t been given a clear explanation other than “he no longer loves me.” I’m truly sorry.’

Back in October of last year, I took to Instagram to share some exciting news – I’ve found someone who brings joy back into my life. The lovely Bianca Wallace, now 32 years young, graced my social media feed with her radiant presence. In a heartfelt post, I expressed my gratitude for the smiles she’s brought me once more.

Evans, who is currently 56 years old, has consistently stated that they, along with their daughters, aged 11 and 7 at the time, became aware of the romantic relationship for the first time on this occasion.

In February 2022, a restraining order was issued against Gruffudd following a series of concerning posts and messages from Evans about him and his new partner, as well as over a hundred text messages that seemed threatening.

Instead of denying abuse or harassment, Evans had her restraining order extended for a period of three years. This means that until August 2025, she is not allowed to discuss or post about the person involved in the order.

Hereafter ensues a fresh legal dispute. It’s alleged that Evans violated her restraining order approximately 5,000 times over the last three years. As a result, Gruffudd is aiming to permanently restrict Evans from discussing him and from any contact with him or his new spouse.

A hearing is set for August 2, and the claims from Gruffudd’s side are damning if true.

He asserts that Evans has been sending him approximately four bothersome messages each day since the restraining order was issued. However, Evans disputes this allegation, expressing remorse for her public response to their separation.

In a court document filed last year, she acknowledged the reason behind the issuance of the restraining order and regretted that she ever sent those messages or shared those social media posts.

I reacted due to the deep distress brought on by the sudden termination of our marriage and Ioan’s swift public disclosure about starting a new romance.

In June of 2023, Gruffudd recounted an unexpected altercation with Ella when she visited his apartment for the first time and encountered Wallace. Following the incident, Ella sustained minimal wounds and later applied for a protective order, targeting both her father and his companion.

In her statement, Ella, aged 13 at the time, expressed her distress upon encountering Wallace by spilling milk on her father’s bed, spreading mustard on the floor, and scattering porridge oats at him. Gruffudd stated to the court that this behavior indicated a pressing need for Ella’s mental health to be addressed immediately.

Meanwhile, Ella asserted that Gruffudd and Wallace accused her of being manipulative, abusive, and narcissistic. She stated that when she attempted to leave, her father pursued her, and in the process, she was struck by a door, causing an injury to her arm. Nonetheless, the judge declined to consider her application.

In the thrilling year of 2023, I found myself deeply engrossed, almost obsessed, in the unfolding saga of a child custody case. As an ardent fan, I closely followed every development, and last year, a momentous decision was reached following a meticulous Child Custody Evaluation. This evaluation, a testament to thoroughness, was orchestrated by none other than Gruffudd, who carefully selected a highly skilled expert to interview all parties involved. The expert’s recommendations, safeguarding the children’s privacy, were then confidentially submitted to the court.

The ongoing legal disputes didn’t seem to be resolving, and in July 2024, Evans pleaded for financial assistance, stating that she hadn’t received a single cent since April. She admitted to being financially strapped and unable to meet her bills. With the threat of homelessness looming, she established a GoFundMe page to seek public aid.

According to her assertion, Gruffudd was giving her $3,000 (approximately £2,200) each month as child support and an additional $1,500 (around £1,100) in spousal support. However, this amount wasn’t sufficient for her to cover her living expenses, she stated.

According to Gruffudd, the bank statements indicate that Evans is financially secure rather than struggling. He points out that she made approximately £97,000 in 2024 and is expected to earn a similar amount in 2025.

Based on court-submitted bank records, it’s indicated that she expended approximately £6,900 (equivalent to $9,288) in December 2024, with this amount including a vacation that totaled £2,200 ($2,990).

Gruffudd argues that even after giving Evans $70,000 (approximately £52,000) annually in support, he only has a total income of $121,752 (around £90,000), which is less than hers. He denies her assertion that he deliberately refuses job opportunities to maintain a low income and reduce the amount he needs to pay her.

In his words, ‘This fresh strategy appears to be Alice trying to dodge responsibility for the ongoing public criticism she’s leveled against me.’

For multiple causes, he declined job offers. Among these reasons, he mentions not fitting the character role as one of them. Interestingly, one of the declined jobs was for a small rural theater production that would have required him to spend money on performances and conflicted with his already scheduled projects, according to him.

According to sources close to Evans, the depiction presented by Gruffudd’s legal team is considered misleading. The amount cited by the Welsh actor as his own contribution, which amounts to approximately $80,000 of the total $130,000, allegedly includes the support he was legally obliged to provide.

‘But I did it. And I earned the money for next month’s rent.
