Summary

  • HBO confirmed filming is underway for its Harry Potter TV series in the U.K.
  • First images show Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, with updated uniform details
  • Arabella Stanton (Hermione), Alastair Stout (Ron), and new high-profile cast members confirmed

The magical realm of Harry Potter is making its small-screen debut, and HBO has begun production on their eagerly awaited TV series adaptation at Warner Bros. Studios in the U.K. To accompany this significant news, the network has shared an exciting sneak peek of the main character, signaling the start of a new era of enchantment for viewers.

The first image unveiled by HBO shows Dominic McLaughlin dressed up as Harry Potter, complete with the traditional Hogwarts attire. Fans will recognize the iconic round-framed glasses and lightning bolt scar, but careful viewers might spot some modifications in the Gryffindor uniform’s design, such as changes to the jumper’s piping and tie patterns. These adjustments are probably intended to differentiate this series from the well-loved movie franchise. Alongside McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton has been chosen for Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley, creating the new version of the Golden Trio. The show is scheduled to premiere in 2027.

Today’s update officially introduces several new actors joining the cast: Rory Wilmot takes on Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson becomes Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey portrays Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser assumes the role of Garrick Ollivander. These fresh faces join previously announced notable actors such as Paapa Essiedu playing Severus Snape, John Lithgow embodying Albus Dumbledore, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley. Together, they form a top-tier ensemble ready to spearhead this extensive, multi-season project. The series is being penned by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing several episodes and J.K. Rowling serving as an executive producer. Filming for the first season is slated to continue until Spring 2026, with the second season commencing shortly after a brief hiatus.
