ZETA DIVISION june1 on Japan’s new chapter in MLBB esports
During the MSC 2025 Wild Card Stage, it was evident that Japan’s passion for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) competition is as strong as ever, thanks to the impressive performance by ZETA DIVISION.
At the Esports World Cup (EWC) Wild Card Stage of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Mid Season Cup (MSC) 2025, Japan made a return to the global stage for the first time since the M2 World Championship. It was ZETA DIVISION representing Japan in this competition. Remarkably, despite it being their initial international event, they held their own against more seasoned teams.
Among the team’s stellar performers was their EXP laner, june1. He is a newcomer not only to the international stage but also to offline competitions in general. In an exclusive chat with Xpsp, he expressed his joy at finally getting the opportunity to participate in live competition rather than just watching from the sidelines.
ZETA DIVISION and their breakout run in the MSC 2025 Wild Card Stage
Since the time 10s Gaming Frost represented Japan in the M2 World Championship a decade ago, there’s been a noticeable absence of Japanese players in the international Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports scene. So, it’s no wonder there was such excitement when Japan secured a place in the Wild Card Stage of the MSC 2025. A local qualifier determined that ZETA DIVISION would represent the region. For their EXP Laner, june1, this opportunity holds great significance.
June1 expressed that it was a tremendous privilege for them, as this was not only an honor but also their first-ever offline tournament. Admittedly, they were quite anxious about the event.
Regardless of their initial apprehension, ZETA DIVISION left spectators amazed. Primarily having practiced against Japanese teams, anticipation was kept in check. However, an astounding performance ensued, propelling them to the upper bracket final. Unfortunately, they were defeated by INFLUENCE RAGE. Nevertheless, their showcase surpassed all expectations. The team even resurrected the UBE strategy, which soon became a preferred approach among Wild Card competitors.
As the team’s EXP laner (Experience Lane player), June1 played a crucial role during key moments, serving as a shield on the front line and taking pressure to provide his fellow players with room to maneuver. His consistent tank play formed the sturdy foundation of ZETA’s durability, particularly in their initial game strategies.
Japan MLBB scene is promising, but still needs some polish
In the heat of the MSC 2025 Wild Card competition, he began noticing aspects that many Japanese Mobile Legends: Bang Bang teams appear to lack. Simultaneously, he feels compelled to uphold the legacy established by 10s Gaming Frost and potentially exceed it.
In Japan, many teams don’t have coaches or analysts, which has become quite evident when it comes to the draft and macro strategies. Having admired 10s Gaming Frost’s play at M1 and M2, I feel a strong sense of responsibility to uphold his legacy here.
In the MSC 2025 Wild Card Stage, it was a tough journey for ZETA DIVISION. They started off with a defeat against INFLUENCE RAGE, which sent them to the lower bracket semifinals. However, they managed to recover and secured a rematch in the lower bracket final. Sadly, the past repeated itself as INFLUENCE RAGE proved too formidable once more, eliminating ZETA DIVISION and concluding their first international tournament run.
Despite failing to obtain a ticket for the Group Stage, June 1 acknowledges that this is not an end but a new beginning. Carrying the responsibility of representing their entire region on the international stage can feel heavy, but he views it as motivation instead. The player believes that the future of Japanese Mobile Legends: Bang Bang League (MLBB) hinges on the rise of more competitive teams. He sees ZETA DIVISION’s run as a potential catalyst for growth in the league.
He expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped us, saying, ‘I truly appreciate your support.’ His intention is to fully utilize this experience as a stepping stone towards continued progress.
