Jar Jar Actor’s Dark Secret Revealed!
In simpler terms, among all the well-known franchises, Star Wars stands out distinctively. It’s a galaxy far, far away that has been a part of many childhoods, continually growing with new productions gracing theaters and streaming platforms through Disney+ subscriptions. Often, when fans rank the Star Wars movies, The Phantom Menace tends to be lower on the list due to its more child-oriented tone. This movie sparked significant criticism, and Ahmed Best, the actor who portrayed Jar Jar Binks, has shared that he attempted suicide as a consequence of the backlash.
Jar Jar Binks, a character from Episode I, has been the focus of numerous jokes since its release in theaters, and Best previously discussed feeling suicidal because of it. In the latest season of Disney+’s series Light & Magic, he delved into his past and explained his attempt to commit suicide on the Brooklyn Bridge. To quote him directly:
Here I stand, outside the bridge, propped up against a massive support pillar. The Statue of Liberty catches my eye, and thoughts surge within me: ‘I vow to demonstrate to each and every one of you the pain inflicted upon me. I will make all of you feel the same hurt as I have.’
Experiencing such a dream-turned-nightmare is quite relatable, especially for Best, who landed a role in a Star Wars movie – an aspiration for many. However, the euphoria turned sour when Jar Jar Binks, his character, faced severe criticism, with allegations that his portrayal was racially insensitive. After appearing in The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar Binks was largely sidelined throughout the rest of the prequel trilogy.

Best found himself in deep despair, yearning to alleviate his suffering and send a message to those who caused it. To this day, his animosity towards Jar Jar remains, so one can guess how powerful it was back then. In the same episode, he shared the moment that prevented him from ending his life, sharing it as:
I was standing on the bridge, inching towards the moment of solitude – freedom from chatter and crowds. Suddenly, without warning, there came a swift, powerful gust of wind, seeming to appear out of thin air.
Discuss instances of divine intervention. When Best found himself at the brink, considering ending his life, an unforeseen gust of wind saved him. He described how this sudden force made him cling onto the Brooklyn Bridge out of fright. It was during this mix of terror and fortunate timing that he realized he didn’t wish to die anymore. In his own words:
“I was faced with a life-threatening moment, but an unexpected breeze pushed me back, making me hold onto the Brooklyn Bridge out of fear. This experience, filled with both terror and luck, made me realize I did not want to die.
I became quite fearful, but I was glad for the fear because it signified that I desired to keep on living.
It’s truly inspiring that Ahmed Best not only overcame his challenges, but had the courage to openly discuss his experiences with suicidal thoughts. I can only imagine how impactful this could be for fans, particularly those who have faced similar struggles and find it hard to envision a brighter future.
Liam Neeson has recently rejoined the Star Wars universe with a new character, appearing as a Jedi Master who aided Grogu (the Child) after an attack on the Jedi Temple, in a flashback scene from The Mandalorian. Notably, he’s expressed interest in reprising this role in a spinoff film, which seems like an exciting prospect.
Ahmed Best’s involvement in the Star Wars universe can be watched on Disney+. Although there’s no plan for another Star Wars film to hit theaters by 2025, we have been consistently receiving new TV series for streaming instead.
