12 MCU Antiheroes Confirmed for Phase 6
The movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is confirmed for release in July 2025, marking the beginning of Marvel’s Phase Six. Simultaneously, “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for 2026 to wrap up this phase. With fans eagerly anticipating thrilling collaborations and highly anticipated confrontations, everyone is on tenterhooks about what will happen next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). As cryptic hints and sneak peeks keep sparking speculation regarding upcoming MCU films, it’s becoming increasingly clear which prominent Marvel characters, including Captain America, Daredevil, and potential newcomers like Doctor Doom, might appear or re-emerge during the next phase.
In the build-up to it, there’s plenty of anticipation for Phase 6 as it gathers a powerful roster of Marvel Cinematic Universe anti-heroes. These intriguing, morally ambiguous characters mete out justice in unconventional manners, leaving viewers on edge and keeping the usual Marvel heroes constantly on their toes.
12 MCU Antiheroes Confirmed for Phase 6 Appearances
Loki – Avengers: Doomsday
Tom Hiddleston’s character Loki, played by him, has been present in all six stages (phases) of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has frequently switched loyalties among various factions throughout the duration of the series.
During the extended live broadcast of Avengers: Doomsday, it was officially announced that characters Loki and Thor would be reuniting in the movie. Despite their stormy past as Asgardian siblings, Loki’s alliance with Thor against Thanos marked a positive conclusion to their relationship. Previously known for his self-centered behavior, Loki made an exceptional choice by standing together with Thor at this critical juncture.
Although Loki found himself in a more heroic position at the end of Season 2, his past suggests he might stir up trouble again when he reappears in Doomsday.
Punisher – Spiderman: Brand New Day
In the lineup for Phase 6, The Punisher stands out as a much-loved anti-hero who’s sure to bring an exciting twist. It’s hinted that Frank Castle might stir up trouble, keeping any superheroes he encounters on high alert.
In the recently concluded first season of Daredevil: Rebirth, Frank Castle fought valiantly alongside Matt Murdock. He’s set to reappear in the second season of that show, as well as in the upcoming Spider-Man film titled Spider-Man: A New Beginning, and will also star in his own Disney+ feature called Frank Castle: Fresh Start.
Among his fundamental principles, acting impulsively (shoot first, ask questions later), often makes him an unpredictable character, contrasting sharply with the standard code of conduct for most superheroes who tend to prioritize caution and minimize harm.
Jessica Jones- Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Through managing her past struggles and alcohol consumption, it’s evident that Jessica Jones harbors a strong aversion towards heroics. Instead of devoting herself to rescuing others and improving the world, Jessica Jones opts to prioritize her personal well-being.
In the upcoming second season of the Disney+ series “Daredevil: Born Again,” it has been confirmed that Charlie Cox’s character, Jessica Jones, will make a return. This marks the first time that Jessica Jones and Matt Murdock (Daredevil) will interact since their last appearance together in the “Defenders” miniseries, following an event where Jessica Jones was presumed dead only to be resurrected later on.
As Jessica Jones enters the scene when Daredevil is struggling to uphold his non-lethal policy alongside the Punisher, Matt Murdock’s childcare duties may lead to a delightful chaos that will unfold in the second season of “Daredevil: Born Again.
Namor – Avengers: Doomsday
In the movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, the character Namor, portrayed by Tenoch Huerta Mejía, demonstrates a morally complex nature due to his erratic behavior and ability to change allegiances unexpectedly. This was evident when he initially formed an alliance but later turned on Shuri and attacked Wakanda, despite their growing romantic connection, which represented a significant betrayal.
As a passionate moviegoer, I can’t help but notice the buzz among fans who believe that Namor’s actions were understandable and are secretly rooting for a romantic connection between him and Shuri. They’re even hoping that this relationship could revive those cut storylines about their blossoming romance, especially since Shuri is set to appear in the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday.
Regardless of whether they unite or not, it’s evident that Namor consistently prioritizes the welfare of Talokan, standing by its interests, regardless of his position.
M’Baku – Avengers: Doomsday
In the upcoming movie “Avengers: Doomsday,” it’s anticipated that M’Baku, one of Black Panther’s main adversaries, will make a significant comeback. Throughout the years, his main aim has been to reconnect Wakanda, a technologically advanced nation, with its traditional roots. This ambition often leads to conflicts and disputes, making it an issue worth contending over.
M’Baku was seen standing beside T’Challa during fights against Killmonger and later with Shu against Namor and the people of Talokan. However, it’s worth noting that in the 2018 film “Black Panther,” he initially contested for the throne against T’Challa.
It’s clear that when given the chance, M’Baku won’t think twice about promoting the welfare of his people. As the new leader of Wakanda, we’ll discover if he evolves into a more balanced ruler or persists in championing causes specifically for the Jabari tribe.
Winter Soldier – Avengers: Doomsday
The character known as Bucky Barnes, who was portrayed as the mind-controlled assassin “Winter Soldier” in the movie “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” has significantly evolved and is ready to team up with the New Avengers in the upcoming film titled “Doomsday.
During his short stint as a congressman in the U.S., Bucky, as depicted in Thunderbolts, isn’t shy about rolling up his sleeves and bending or breaking some rules for the greater good. This no-nonsense strategy could stir up a bit of turmoil when he reunites with his more rule-abiding friend Sam Wilson in the Avengers movie series, as their contrasting methods may clash.
Regardless of their positions in the end, Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier, is a beloved anti-hero in the Marvel universe who generates excitement due to fan expectations for his character development, possibly including a romantic relationship.
Scarlet Witch – Marvel Zombies
In essence, possessing immense power often brings significant responsibilities, and this rings true for the Scarlet Witch, who has faced considerable challenges coping with grief and her turbulent mental state. Her narrative took a chilling and unsettling turn in the series that blended sitcom elements with horror-fantasy, aptly titled WandaVision.
In the vein of events observed in “Multiverse of Madness”, sorrow and bereavement often lead Scarlet Witch towards a villainous transformation. Given that she’s slated to reappear during Phase 6 in “Marvel Zombies”, her ominous side could pose significant threats to the other characters within the storyline.
Yet, despite being engulfed in darkness, Elizabeth Olsen’s character, Wanda Maximoff, continues to exhibit a noble moral core and deep empathy. This suggests she might find her way back to the light and choose what is just.
Yelena – Avengers: Doomsday
Yelena Belova assumed the role of the Black Widow previously held by Natasha Romanoff. Given her history as a secret agent and hired gun, it’s evident that the character’s multi-layered persona embodies the essence of an anti-hero.
In the film “Black Widow,” Yelena demonstrates a lack of enthusiasm for the superhero lifestyle, often poking fun at Natasha’s superhero life and expressing her disapproval. This pattern persists in “Hawkeye” and “Thunderbolts,” where Yelena is employed as an assassin by Val, indicating that she prefers a more mercenary career path over the superhero one.
In the upcoming storyline “Doomsday,” Yelena will assume a significant position within the New Avengers. However, their laid-back attitude towards superhero duties might lead to disagreements or friction with the traditional Avengers team members.
Blade (Moon Knight Variant) – Marvel Zombies
Among all possible candidates, it seems fitting to recruit a hybrid character consisting of two formidable anti-heroes from the Marvel universe, renowned for their unorthodox tactics, in the upcoming Marvel animated series Marvel Zombies.
Apart from the anticipation and hype surrounding the upcoming animated show, it could provide Marvel an excellent chance to rectify the portrayals of both characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a single, impactful move. With the recently concluded Moon Knight TV series, some argue that Moon Knight was not accurately depicted, while others might have overlooked Blade’s presence in the MCU entirely.
Ghost – Avengers: Doomsday
In the 2018 movie “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” Hannah John-Kamen introduced the character known as Ghost. Her ties to SHIELD’s dubious research projects and her strong survival instincts have endeared her to many as a complex, gray character within the Thunderbolts group. Fans can’t wait to see what she contributes in “Avengers: Doomsday.
In addition to having a shady professional history as a secretive assassin, being part of the Thunderbolts suggests a doubtful or morally ambiguous background. Similarly, Ava St Carr’s position can be seen as questionable because in matters of survival, there are often few alternatives other than taking whatever measures are necessary.
Red Guardian – Avengers: Doomsday
In simpler terms, The Red Guardian is known for providing comedic moments within the Thunderbolts comic series, showcasing a once-great super soldier grappling with a lack of purpose. However, David Harbour’s character Alexei Shostakov, debuting in Black Widow, embodies the burden of the Cold War era, Russian pride, and personal shortcomings, which he camouflages through humor.
It’s not surprising that he, as the Soviet Union’s counterpart to Captain America, is fixated on Steve Rogers. Fans found this intriguing yet endearing, given his wealth of tales about confrontations with the previous Captain – a mix of sadness and cuteness that left quite an impression.
In the film “Avengers: Doomsday” or future Thunderbolts movies, fans anticipate witnessing further development of the heartwarming relationship between him and Yelena, as he assumes the role of a caring father figure.
U.S. Agent (John Walker) Doomsday
In the series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Wyatt Russell’s character, John Walker (also known as U.S. Agent), was initially chosen by the government to step into the role vacated by Captain America. However, it was later revealed that he tragically executed an innocent individual in public.
In my perspective, though his choices were frequently debatable, it was precisely this enigmatic, twisted nature that made the character an intriguing Captain America for me. Just like U.S. Agent, fans either adore him to pieces or find him utterly intolerable. With Doomsday being his third appearance in the MCU, Russell has hinted at revealing a hitherto unseen, less-than-admirable side of the rogue Cap.
