Alex Cullen lists Summer Hill home for rent following move to Melbourne

Axed Today show reporter Alex Cullen has put up his Sydney home for rent.

44-year-old Cullen, previously terminated by Channel Nine following his on-air acceptance of a $50,000 gift from The Block tycoon Adrian Portelli (nicknamed ‘McLaren Man’), has switched jobs and joined The Christian O’Connell Show on Melbourne’s Gold 104.3 radio station.

This four-bedroom, two-bathroom property belonging to Cullen is situated in the area of Summer Hill, approximately 9 kilometers from the city center. At present, it is advertised for rent at a weekly rate of $1,700 and requires a security deposit of $6,800.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Cullen had originally listed the home for $1800 last week.

1912 saw the birth of a Queen Anne Federation home I adore – a timeless beauty that’s been lovingly preserved. It flaunts exquisite details such as intricate stained-glass windows, ornate ceiling patterns, and graceful arches.

Key features encompass hardwood floors, authentic arches, ornate fireplaces, and a spacious veranda encircling the house.

Additionally, you’ll find a contemporary kitchen equipped with all necessary amenities and a spacious backyard featuring a paved outdoor dining area perfect for enjoying meals under the open sky.

After his dismissal from the Today show following the revelation that he had accepted a $50,000 gift from the contentious Block bidder, Adrian Portelli, Cullen found himself in this situation.

In January, the presenter received a substantial amount of money following his on-air usage of Portelli’s self-titled moniker ‘McLaren Man,’ an action that led to his departure from Channel Nine.

I’ve just landed an exciting new position as a sports presenter on the highly-rated morning show, The Christian O’Connell Show, airing on Melbourne’s Gold 1043.3 FM.

Host Christian O’Connell confirmed the news during his show late last month.

Alex shared his excitement at joining the show in a statement.

‘This is such an exciting next chapter for me,’ he wrote.

Beginning my professional journey in the realm of radio, returning to it now and becoming part of a program cherished by many, with such a warm and genuine spirit, is truly exhilarating.

We’re absolutely excited to soon join Christian, Pats, and Rio on-air, and to discover the city of Melbourne as our new residence; my whole family is looking forward to this exciting change.

In July, he is set to formally become a part of the show, following Jack Post’s announcement of his departure back in May when he resigned as Christian’s co-star.

Cullen’s exit from Nine was announced by Today host Karl Stefanovic live on air.

The controversy began when Portelli, feeling fed up with his old nickname ‘Mr Lambo’, announced a cash prize for the first individual who used his new alias on live broadcast, and Alex complied during the Today show.

Later, the businessperson associated with Block seems to have made an apparent bank transaction of $50,000 to the host on Instagram.

Violating journalistic integrity by accepting money, presents, or advantages to compromise impartiality, and abusing a journalist’s role for personal profit, are both unethical acts according to the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance union’s code of ethics for journalists.

The foolish maneuver resulted in Alex receiving a suspension from Channel Nine, and during this time of investigation into the payment issue, Alex was absent from the show.

Regardless of Portelli’s assertion that the money was meant for charity, Nine eventually chose to separate from Alex, as it turned out.

Inside sources to Daily Mail Australia suggested that the stunt might have been advantageous for both the network and Portelli, if Alex clarified to the promoter that, being a journalist, he couldn’t receive payment for making the statement on-air.

For the first time, Portelli was given the unflattering moniker ‘Mr Lambo’ when he arrived at the 2022 auction event for The Block house makeover show in a bright yellow Lamborghini.
