Anne-Marie details secret postnatal depression battle after welcoming her second child – and gives update on music career

In a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, Anne-Marie shared her struggle with postnatal depression openly.

The 34-year-old vocalist, who has an 18-month-old daughter with her hip-hop partner Slowthai, was blessed with a newborn son in May.

Over the past two years, my thoughts have been scattered like leaves in the wind, but I want to express my heartfelt gratitude towards my family who have tirelessly guided me through my challenging mental journey.

Approximately 20% of women and 10% of men may experience mental health issues like depression or anxiety during pregnancy or within a year following childbirth.

She expressed that she’s seldom felt as much like herself as she does now in quite some time. She’s had a hard time focusing, her thoughts have been scattered. For more than two years, she’s been pregnant and nursing.

I’m feeling mentally out of whack, but I’ve finally started to feel better. I’ve been through some tough times and my body has taken a beating. It’s been incredibly difficult, but I suppose it’s become a cliche to say that it’s all worth it.

Even though I’m not a fan of sticking to routines, I find myself living by one now, with nap times, feedings, and meal schedules.

I’ve successfully navigated this challenging period, although I’m not entirely free from its effects yet. I feel like I’ve climbed out of a deep pit. I’ve dealt with postnatal depression and anxiety, and once more sought the help of therapy. Fortunately, the support from those around me has been instrumental in helping me get through it.

‘Now I’m back. I’m strong and I’m excited. My blond hair is back. My body is kinda back. 

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’ve come to a point where I must curb my chocolate consumption, despite the occasional temptation of claiming “the baby wants it.” It’s just laughter and a sigh of determination, as this post was getting quite lengthy. But rest assured, I wanted to share this small insight with you.

In the raw and honest post, Anne-Marie also teased her musical comeback now she feels stronger.

She expressed her relief, saying, “At last, my thoughts are crystal-clear once more! Hooray! I’ve got two precious little ones now. While I might not be ready to hit the road just yet, I know it won’t be long before we tour again.

Anne-Marie received encouragement from well-known friends in the comment section, among them were Jessie J, Paloma Faith, and Fearne Cotton.

In a surprising revelation, Anne-Marie and Slowthai, who secretly tied the knot in 2022, announced that they are expecting their second child, mere days after Seven, their firstborn, celebrated her first birthday.

Discussing the significance of Seven’s name, The Sun shared this insight: “Seven holds special luck for Anne-Marie, and she has ‘0707’ permanently inked on her body, considering these sequences as her personal divine messages or ‘angel numbers’.

As I pen down these words, I can’t help but feel a surge of joy and excitement within me. Just last month, I became a mother, and let me tell you, it’s beyond magical! This dream I harbored for years, the desire to nurture and love a tiny soul, has finally come true. Anne-Marie, my dear friend, I can see your eyes shining with the same radiance as mine. You too have longed for this moment, and now that it’s here, we both are basking in its glory. This is indeed an amazing time for us!

She shared with The Star: “When you notice repeated numbers, it’s a sign that your guardian angels are by your side, and the number seven holds great significance for me. Since the position of my mirror is such, whenever I gaze into it, I can catch a glimpse of that number.
