GEN Ruler on winning MSI 2025: “I think beating T1 at the LoL Worlds 2025 will feel like true revenge.”

Gen.G solidified their position among the elite teams globally following their victory against T1 at MSI 2025. Now, they shift their attention towards upcoming competitions.

Following several grueling weeks of competition, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2025 came to a close, with Gen.G triumphantly claiming their second consecutive championship title after an intense battle against T1. The Korean team took some time to celebrate their victory, discuss their strategies, express their anticipation for the upcoming 2025 League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds), and share their feelings about avenging their longstanding rivals.

General G has now become part of an exclusive club of teams to win the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) two years in a row, joining SK Telecom T1 (2016-2017) and Royal Never Give Up (2021-2022). Chovy was named MVP of MSI 2025, further cementing his status as one of the tournament’s top performers.

How would you feel about being asked this question: “TheScore esports: [Chovy], To have won your second international title and be named MVP of the tournament, particularly following a series against T1, your domestic competitors, and one of the greatest international teams ever, what does this achievement mean to you?

I’m thrilled that our team triumphed over T1 in the MSI championship, but I don’t intend to read too much into this victory. What truly matters is the dedication and effort we poured into our preparation for the MSI. Those experiences helped us emerge victorious in a challenging series, and they instilled in us the belief that we can recover even when faced with difficult circumstances.

Have you ever tasted sweet victory after falling short in an international competition against T1? Given that this triumph marks the reversal of that previous loss, is there an added flavor to this success due to your sense of revenge being satisfied?

Previously, our team lost to T1 during an international competition at the Worlds tournament last year. Although we managed to defeat them at MSI last year, it doesn’t diminish the fact that we want to avenge our loss against them at this year’s Worlds event.

My Thought: Winning against Team 1 at the League of Legends World Championship 2025 would be a sweet act of retribution for me.

In the GEN Canyon, my thoughts remain unchanged. This MSI experience has underscored the immense strength of every participating team. Here’s to a meticulous preparation for Worlds, with hopes of emerging victorious.

As a diehard fan, I’m not zeroing in on any particular match-up during Worlds. Instead, I’m brimming with excitement and optimism that we can conquer each opponent we face and ultimately triumph in this tournament!

In the last tournament, Gumayusi mentioned that he struggled during the lane phase. Could you share your preparation strategies for this aspect of the game, and what are your thoughts on your overall performance?

Reflecting on our matchup, even in equal lanes, we didn’t just aim for a 50/50 outcome; we aimed higher and performed well. In hindsight, throughout MSI, Duro and I showed great competitiveness as a bot lane.

Duro, what was the key to your success at your first international tournament?

I believe that a lack of confidence can be my downfall. I make an effort to maintain a confident outlook, which I’ve managed to do with the support of those around me who have provided significant assistance.
