Rita Ora says she still feels her ‘great friend’ Liam Payne’s presence nine months after his tragic death as she reveals whether she’ll watch his final TV appearance

Nine months after Liam Payne’s passing, Rita Ora expressed that she continues to sense his presence. She referred to him as a cherished friend.

In a chat on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, the vocalist from How We Do, aged 34, opened up frankly about the former One Direction member.

Rita acknowledges that occasionally, he crosses her mind, preserving his memory, since he departed at the tail-end of last year in Argentina.

At present, she’s residing in New York following her headlining performance at a special concert on Friday, which kicked off Wimbledon’s four-day US invasion for the fourth consecutive year.

Over the weekend, the star was spotted navigating New York City’s subway system, with photos emerging of her journeying towards Brooklyn.

While in America, she made an appearance on a radio program and was questioned about whether or not she would tune into a forthcoming reality TV show centered around the deceased singer.

Host Elvis inquired if she would tune into ‘Building the Band’, a fresh series that marked Liam’s last project – production on which concluded just prior to his untimely demise.

As a devoted fan, I’ve eagerly watched the initial four episodes that premiered on Netflix just a few days ago. I can hardly wait for the next three episodes scheduled for release on July 16th.

Rita replied: “I definitely plan to watch it. He’s an excellent friend of mine, and I somehow still keep in touch with him. So no worries.

She went on to say: ‘I often perform a tune that was our duet, and I find myself singing it frequently. It’s as if he’s right beside me, and I always include a sweet snapshot of him during the performance. The sensation of his presence lingering through music is simply wonderful.’

‘That’s why music is so powerful. It really does bring back a person, a memory, a feeling.

Absolutely, I cherish a remarkable memory with him, particularly our shared song “For You.” That special moment will forever remain in my heart.

Liam, who was 31 years old, tragically passed away on October 16, 2024, following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. An autopsy later revealed traces of alcohol and cocaine in his body.

A mere month following Liam’s passing, Rita took charge of the MTV EMAs and dedicated a heartfelt tribute to her dear friend.

Reflecting with a heavy heart, I find myself compelled to share a poignant moment. ‘Let me pause here, to recall a soul deeply cherished among us.’

Recently, we bid farewell to Liam Payne, who held a significant place not only in the MTV realm but also in mine, as well as many others who are tuned in at home and here tonight. I believe he was among the most compassionate individuals I have encountered.

We discussed numerous ways to pay tribute to him, but I believe, at times, expressing our feelings through conversation can be powerful enough.

This week, Rita displayed her well-defined waistline in a revealing white blouse during her journey through Brooklyn’s subway system.

In a series of amusing Instagram posts during her travels in Brooklyn, Rita was seen casually searching through her designer handbag for some wet wipes, confessing that she prefers not to grip the subway poles due to their unsanitary nature.
