Unraveling Our Epic Universe Disagreement: The Surprising Ride That Stole Our Hearts
Over the past few weeks, my mind has been preoccupied with the grand opening of Epic Universe. I’ve been pondering over the incredible queues, delicious food options, and overall atmosphere, but also the 11 thrilling rides and various other attractions that fill this new park. As I continue to mull it over, a clear realization has become undeniable: My fellow TopMob team member and I seem to have differing opinions on which ride is the best one.
Our Theme Park Expert Dirk Libbey Was Shocked To Find Out He’s In Love With Harry Potter And The Ministry Of Magic
Despite sharing similar views on theme parks with Dirk Libbey, it’s clear that he isn’t as passionate about Harry Potter as I am. He didn’t have the same childhood connection to the books that my millennial spirit did, and our visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter didn’t exactly excite him (unlike Tom Felton). So, it came as a surprise when he listed all the Epic Universe rides and placed Harry Potter and the Ministry of Magic at the top.
He took great delight in the entrance to the vast chamber within the Ministry of Magic and the complexity of the line. But what truly captivated him was the blend of screens and organic elements during the ride, which he thoroughly enjoyed as he accompanied the actors confronting Umbridge on this extraordinary adventure.
Being a big Harry Potter fan, I assumed this would be the top-notch attraction at the new park, but boy, was I in for a shock!

I Was Shocked To Find Out Monsters Were My Vibe
As a die-hard Harry Potter enthusiast, much like my esteemed colleague, I hold a special place in my heart for both the magical world of Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride. Interestingly enough, the new Battle at The Ministry of Magic Ride at Epic Universe shares some intriguing similarities with this fan-favorite attraction.
Both rides boast the presence of original Potter cast members and incorporate interactive elements in their queues, as well as screens within the ride itself. However, the overall delivery and experience between the two is remarkably distinct.
Anticipating that the queue would live up to the transformative experience reported by Potter fans, I was certain this would be my favorite ride. However, as I stepped into Darkmoor, my expectations underwent a significant shift. Both Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Battle At The Ministry of Magic are indoor rides with innovative mechanisms, but what captivated me most is the rich narrative in The Frankenstein Experiment. It’s so well-developed that I can imagine it as a blockbuster movie on the big screen.
Not only do I appreciate every intricate detail within the animatronics, but an unexpected delight awaits fans who find themselves trapped in the loading room with Frankenstein for a prolonged period.
Combine this with my preference for real-life effects, and let me tell you, I found myself appreciating the KUKA-Arm technology on this occasion! To be frank, that very technology always makes me queasy when I experience Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, so I was quite anxious beforehand. However, each ride offers a fresh sight every time, which is exciting. What’s more, the charm of practical effects lies in their ability to still send a shiver down your spine even when they don’t move exactly as anticipated or something seems slightly amiss.
The functional Dark Universe gateway took me by surprise. Prior to my visit, I wouldn’t have identified myself as a fan of the Dark Universe; however, it was neither Harry Potter nor How to Train Your Dragon that lingered in my mind following my departure from Fantastic Universe. Instead, it was the unique experiences and memories of the Dark Universe that remained with me.
The Moral Of This Epic Universe Story?
Each year, we attend Halloween Horror Nights, but since my knowledge leans more towards romance, TV series, or animated movies, I usually step aside. However, after participating in Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been missing out on a fantastic adventure. This might just be the year for me to break free and give something new a try.
It appears that my initial impressions of Epic Universe were quite different from reality, given the descriptions, types, and themes of the rides. However, embracing novel adventures has proven to be an outstanding decision during my park visits.
In the end, Dirk and I didn’t share the same fondness or anticipation for certain attractions, but surprisingly, we ended up loving them more than expected. However, what makes Universal Orlando’s theme parks special is its wide appeal – everyone can find something they enjoy. It might be different things that appeal to you, and that’s perfectly okay.
