Approximately forty minutes into “The Old Guard 2”, Andy of Scythia – who sports a mullet that Theron’s children have shed tears over – makes her first appearance in Rome after five centuries to reconnect with Quynh (Veronica Ngô), her ancient lover. As she journeys towards their rendezvous, she finds herself traversing a hallway. In this moment, her mind takes a stroll down memory lane, providing her with a snapshot of the different eras she has lived through throughout her lengthy existence, as well as reminders of when and where she encountered the other members of her team.

In this fresh Netflix film, there was a particular scene that left me saying, “Wow, that was quite amazing.” The impressive thing about it was the smooth transitions between different historical periods, which seemed to pass before Andy’s eyes and mine, with the camera managing to keep her at the center throughout. Although I haven’t found any proof yet, it seems as if this sequence was shot practically in one continuous take, a filmmaking approach that I find truly commendable.
