Gerard Butler’s “lovably dumb” action thriller is now streaming for free
Gerard Butler’s action thriller Plane is now streaming for free in the UK.
In the 2023 flick, I find myself as Brodie Torrance, the skilled pilot, navigating through a harrowing ordeal when my aircraft gets zapped by a bolt of lightning, forcing me to perform an urgent landing maneuver.
Unfortunately, he lands his passengers somewhere even more dangerous: on a war-torn island.

In this scenario, a group of local insurgents seize the majority of passengers, leaving Torrance in a difficult position. As a last resort, he enlists the help of Louis Gaspare, a detainee being transported by the FBI, who is played by Mike Colter from Luke Cage, to attempt a rescue mission.
Following its broadcast on Film4 this past week, you can now stream Plane for free on Channel 4’s streaming platform. If you’d prefer an ad-free experience, consider upgrading to their premium tier at £3.99 a month or £39.99 a year.
In general, critics found themselves quite fond of the movie’s charm reminiscent of B-movies. A whopping 79% of the 173 reviews gathered on Rotten Tomatoes were positive.
The observer deemed it an outstanding action thriller, while Detroit News found certain parts reminiscent of “Die Hard 2,” but in a favorable manner.
The San Jose Mercury News referred to it as a nostalgic indulgence, carrying the same familiar and endearing simplicity as the movies it imitates. On the other hand, RogerEbert.com criticized it for lacking the necessary wildness, arguing that it did not fully embrace its inherent foolishness.
In a lively and engaging manner, Time Out stated, “This fits exactly what you’re looking for. Fast-paced, straightforward, and intense – it delivers explosions, fights, gun battles, and multiple scenes of someone being hit hard with a giant hammer. Could you want anything more? It’s exhilarating!
Fans liked it even more, as it has an average user score of 94% from over 1,000 ratings.
In 2023, a follow-up titled “Ship” was announced, but as of now, it doesn’t appear that production has started yet.
Plane is available to stream now on Channel 4.
The latest edition of Digital Spy’s print issue has arrived! You can purchase the Oasis – Live in ’25’ issue from newsstands or online for only £8.99.
