Peter Capaldi’s thriller series, Criminal Record, is coming back to Apple TV this spring. The show features Capaldi, known for Doctor Who, as an experienced police officer who finds himself at odds with a rising detective, played by Cush Jumbo.
The show premiered on the streaming service in 2024 and quickly became one of their most popular shows in the UK, as reported by Deadline. A second season was confirmed later that same year.
Season 2 is set to launch on April 22nd, with new episodes released each week until June 10th. We’ve also got a sneak peek at some new photos, which you can find below.

The upcoming episodes will explore what happens after a young man is stabbed to death at a political event. Detectives Daniel Hegarty and June Lenker will have to team up to solve the case, and June quickly realizes that Daniel’s information could be crucial to finding justice. As they investigate, they uncover a dangerous far-right plot to bomb London.
Season two will feature new cast members including Dustin Demri-Burns (known from Slow Horses), Luca Pasqualino (Our Girl), Luther Ford (King & Conqueror), Lyndsey Marshal (Death in Paradise), and Peter Sullivan (The Iris Affair).


The cast includes Zoë Wanamaker, known for her role in Shadow and Bone, Stephen Campbell Moore from Downton Abbey, Shaun Dooley who starred in It’s a Sin, and Charlie Creed-Miles of Giri/Haji.
I was so excited about the first season, and it totally lived up to the hype! Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 90% ‘Fresh’ rating based on 50 reviews, and critics said it was a really captivating mystery that just kept getting better and better. I completely agree!



Digital Spy gave the first season a five-star review, calling it a perfect portrayal of modern policing and the challenges faced by officers within a flawed system. We praised its ability to showcase the contradictions within the Metropolitan Police and the difficult work its officers do.
Koimoi praised the film as a standout thriller, highlighting its fast pace, intriguing mystery, and strong acting.
Criminal Record season 2 will premiere on 22 April on Apple TV. Season 1 is available to stream now.
