“Unpredictable” spy thriller with “great shock moments” is being removed by Prime Video this month
The unforeseen spy thriller featuring Matt Damon as the lead, known as “The Bourne Identity,” will no longer be available on Prime Video towards the end of this month.
Back in 2002, I found myself immersed in the thrilling world of “The Bourne Identity,” the initial chapter of the gripping Bourne series. As Jason Bourne (played by Damon), I was pulled from the ocean with a heavy case of amnesia. From that moment on, my mission became clear: to unearth the truth about who I was and my past ties to the CIA.
The action-packed thriller, titled like Robert Ludlum’s 1980 novel, is now streaming on Prime Video in both the UK and Ireland. However, viewers should note that they have limited time to watch it as it will be taken off the platform by 31 July.

Under the guidance of director Doug Liman, an impressive ensemble of actors join forces in this narrative. Among them are Franka Potente, Chris Cooper, Julia Stiles, Brian Cox, and Walton Goggins. Together, they embark on a mission with Jason to unearth his true identity.
The movie was subsequently continued with direct sequels – “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum”, which were released in 2004 and 2007 respectively. A fourth major installment titled “Jason Bourne” came out in 2016, and Jeremy Renner starred in the spin-off film, “The Bourne Legacy”, that was released in 2012.
The movie titled The Bourne Identity garnered positive feedback from critics, as evidenced by its current approval rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 193 reviews. On this platform, the film was lauded for its ability to seamlessly combine various genres, a point emphasized in their collective consensus.
As a thrilled admirer, I’d say this: “I found myself on the edge of my seat as I watched a gripping, unexpected, and gritty tale that seems to have reinvigorated the world of espionage thrillers, according to BBC.com. The Los Angeles Times, as quoted by Rotten Tomatoes, pointed out that this movie was packed with some truly shocking moments.
The Austin Chronicle shared similar praise, noting that the mature storyline would prompt viewers to ponder, while the San Francisco Chronicle commented that the spy tale demonstrated a contemporary feel.
For almost a decade now, there’s been no new installment of the franchise on the big screen. However, in 2023, it was announced that work was underway for a sixth film, with Damon set to return to his role. Potentially directing this project is Edward Berger, who is known for “All Quiet on the Western Front.
The Bourne Identity is available on Prime Video until 31 July.
