In this game, you assume the role of character known as “Wonder” as you traverse both your Phantom Thief and high school lives. This Persona 5: The Phantom X Confidant Guide will walk you through managing your urban lifestyle effectively, with tips on conserving your energy and cultivating relationships with your Confidants.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Confidants Overview

In the game Persona 5 X, your endurance has a limit, so it’s crucial to use it wisely, particularly before the daily reset. It’s best to prevent overuse. If you find yourself with 15 or more energy units and the reset is near, go ahead and spend it as needed.

I typically prioritize activities that enhance my Confidant relationships first, as improving them is crucial for obtaining valuable character enhancements. Subsequently, I concentrate on tasks that boost my social skills, such as sports training or part-time jobs. For instance, soccer practice adds 8 points to my Proficiency, and working at the Crepe shop increases my Guts by 2.

In this game, some relationships, such as with Tommoco, can only advance when certain social stats reach specific levels. For example, I couldn’t improve my relationship with Tommoco until I reached Kindness Level 3, and I was stuck at Level 2. Some activities also offer substantial rewards, such as triple stat gains or money, so it’s best not to overlook them if they appear.

Gifting System for Confidants

When you build a strong relationship with a Confidant, presenting thoughtful gifts becomes crucial as it significantly enhances your connection. Each Confidant has unique preferences, and providing them with something they adore can lead to a substantial increase in your rapport. For instance, when I bestowed Kotoia with a gift she cherished from the cosmetics store, I earned a base +14 synergy boost, along with an additional +14 for offering her preferred item.

Since gifts require funds, it’s wise to undertake an income-generating activity first if you’re short on cash. This will enable you to continue increasing your Confidant points without being hindered by running out of money!

List of Confidants you should prioritize early

Let’s discuss top choices for early level-up companions. You are free to select anyone that suits your gameplay strategy or personal taste, but here are my suggestions due to their beneficial rewards:

Tomoko Noge (Moko)

Among my characters, Tomoko undoubtedly stands out as the first one I’d prioritize for leveling up. She offers not just gems and useful items but also enhances the social stat EXP you gain from part-time jobs with her Level 5 perk. This means that instead of getting, say, 2 Guts, you might potentially earn as much as 6, depending on her rank. This makes her a fantastic early investment when you’re still working to evenly increase all your stats.

Merope

In the second instance, I opt for Merope. With her abilities, she opens up Fusion possibilities, which are truly game-altering. At rank 5, I began fusing Archangel, and by rank 7, I had access to a variety of Personas such as Setanta, Anubis, Okuninushi, and Narcissus. Narcissus was my preference due to his effective debuffing abilities, particularly useful in prolonged battles!

Motoha Arai (Closer)

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but sing the praises of Motoha! At rank 5, this powerhouse character becomes an invaluable asset to your team, restoring HP post-battle when you clinch victory with an All-Out Attack. It’s an absolute game-changer during those lengthy dungeon expeditions. And by rank 13, the cherry on top – a whopping 30% highlight gauge refill upon taking a breather in a safe room! This extra boost is just what the doctor ordered when gearing up for challenging encounters!

Other Noteworthy Confidants

After the big three, I started exploring others depending on my needs.

  • Yaoling Li is great if you’re into crafting battle items or cooking. She can help you make more items and even give you a chance to get materials back at higher ranks.
  • Meanwhile, Yui is your go-to for cultivation and plant harvesting. She unlocks more flowerpots, lets you get seeds when harvesting, and boosts your yields. If you’re not super into crafting or gardening, you can skip these for now, but they’re worth considering later when you want to diversify.
  • Then there’s Kayo Tomiyama, who’s mainly for the fashion lovers. Her rewards revolve around clothing and outfits, so unless you’re all about style, she’s better saved for later.

The Dating System

In any discussion about Confidants in a Persona game, it’s important to touch on the romantic aspects. When a female Confidant reaches Level 15, you gain the ability to form a deep bond, or as they call it, become Soulmates. Not every character offers this option at the moment; for instance, Kayo Tomiyama and Yui do not have romance paths available yet. However, if a Confidant is not fully grown up, you can pursue a romantic relationship with them, just like in the original Persona 5.

Final Thoughts

Trusted allies aren’t mere secondary figures in your tale; they are the lifeblood of your urban journey. They aid you in fortifying yourself for combat, accruing more Social Stat experience points, securing superior loot, and even unveiling fresh Personas. My suggestion? Begin with Tomoko, Arai, and Merope.
