Mephisto’s Next MCU Move Should Be Against The Young Avengers
Fans have eagerly anticipated Mephisto’s arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, with rumors (some dating back to WandaVision) finally proving true. The demonic character officially debuted during the finale of the 2025 TV lineup featuring Ironheart, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen, who has long been associated with the role. Now that Mephisto is in the MCU, I’m ready to see more of him and have ideas for how the franchise can effectively use him in future projects.
Mephisto Should Serve As The Main Villain In A Long-Rumored MCU Team-Up Project
Characters who have read about Mephistopheles’ exploits in comic books are probably aware that he moves freely across the Marvel universe and isn’t confined to a single hero. If the MCU follows this pattern, it’s possible that the villain could make an appearance beyond a potential project focusing on Riri Williams. I’d like to see him confront various heroes at once, rather than just one. The team I have in mind consists of younger superheroes.
Absolutely, I’m looking forward to Mephisto taking on the role of the primary antagonist in a TV series or film focusing on the Young Avengers, the Champions, or whatever the main team of Marvel Universe’s young superheroes becomes. With the start of Phase Four, it appeared that Marvel Studios was planning such a project, given the introduction of several youthful and diverse heroes. This theory was confirmed by a hint at the end of 2023’s The Marvels, as it depicted Kamala Khan recruiting Kate Bishop.

It’s clear that there are numerous qualified individuals for this team, beyond Riri, Kate, and Kamala. Also on the list are Cassie or Billy Maximoff/Billy Kaplan. The idea of Mephisto serving as the villain against which the young squad confronts him isn’t entirely far-fetched either. In fact, I’d contend that there are several reasons that support this scenario.

Why Should Mephisto Serves As The Major Antagonist In This Particular Production?
In the final episode of ‘Ironheart’, accessible via Disney+ subscription, character Riri Williams strikes a bargain with Sacha Baron Cohen’s malevolent demon, promising him something in return for reviving her late friend, Natalie. This agreement causes symbols, similar to those seen on Parker Robbins, to appear on Riri. Although no formal announcement has been made, it seems likely that if either a Young Avengers or Champions project is developed, Riri will be involved. This condition alone might tie Mephisto to the team and make any future confrontation between them highly personal.
More on Young Avengers

Discussing the Young Avengers, Joe Locke discusses the character he believes Billy would be friends with, and his preference between upcoming Marvel cinematic productions – films or television series.
It’s plausible that Mephistopheles would clash with Marvel Cinematic Universe’s youthful squad due to the fact that some of its members might have expertise in magic. For instance, Riri Williams has previously collaborated with an apprentice sorcerer, Zelma, to create an enchanted armor for battling The Hood. Moreover, Billy Maximoff (also known as Wiccan) possesses inherited magical powers from his deceased mother, Wanda. Lastly, America Chavez is learning the mystic arts at Kamar-Taj. Therefore, having two magic users on the team, they might not struggle excessively when dealing with Mephisto.
Although the idea of a Marvel battle with younger characters is intriguing, it’s essential to note that as of now, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed any such project involving their young heroes. However, there are rumors circulating that Champions is being developed early at Marvel Studios and Rachna Fruchbom is penning the script. Whether this speculation comes to fruition remains uncertain, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed for its realization, especially since it might include Sacha Baron Cohen’s iconic soul-stealing villain in a significant role.
