Are you seeking a TV series to binge-watch over a weekend? You’re in for a treat as we’ve put together several box sets that are perfect for quick consumption. There’s a variety here to suit all tastes.
Check out Nicole Kidman’s murder mystery, a fantastic Western period drama, or a hilarious award-winning BBC comedy series – one of these options should make your weekend entertainment!
The English
In the year 1890, this drama series, inspired by the Wild West, was jointly produced by the BBC and Amazon Studios. It boasted a high-profile cast with Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer as the main characters, portraying Lady Cornelia Locke and Sgt Eli Whipp respectively.
What to Read Next
The summary reveals that the characters encounter progressively daunting challenges, pushing them to their limits, both physically and mentally. This unfolds following an inquiry by the local sheriff Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea) and widow Martha Myers (Valerie Pachner) into a sequence of peculiar and grotesque unsolved homicides. As they delve deeper, they will ultimately grasp the intricate connections in their past, and be compelled to confront the future they are destined for.
This English production was generally praised, with critics labeling it as a “masterful demonstration of the Western genre” (Yahoo!), “one of the most visually stunning TV series” (Pajiba), and “remarkably cinematic” (Sunday Independent, Ireland). Given that there’s just one season consisting of six episodes, you’ll find it effortless to complete viewing within 48 hours.
The English is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
The Four Seasons
If you’re seeking a series that combines realistic moments with plenty of humor, “The Four Seasons” might be just what you need. In essence, it’s an eight-part comedy (though not always strictly comedic) tracing the journeys of a close-knit group of friends – comprising three married couples – during various vacations they take together.
In essence, the series offers a vivid portrayal of both tumultuous friendships and complex romantic entanglements over time, all while underscoring the power of enduring friendships. This captivating show, masterfully crafted by Tina Fey, is not to be missed.
Each episode, approximately half an hour long, offers engaging characters that make you eager for more. It’s a series that’s hard to turn away from, keeping you hooked until the very end.
The Four Seasons is available now on Netflix.
Juice
If you’re a fan of Mawaan Rizwan, which I can’t imagine why not, be sure to catch his offbeat scripted comedy series, “Juice“. The story revolves around a character named Jamma, portrayed by Rizwan, who frequently gets overshadowed by his boisterous family.
In the show, Rizwan works alongside his actual mom, Shahnaz, and his real-life brother, Nabhaan Rizwan, portraying Jamma’s family members on screen. Meanwhile, Russell Tovey is cast as Jamma’s romantic interest, Guy.
Mawaan Rizwan won the BAFTA for Best Male Performance in a Comedy category, outshining actors like David Tennant from “Good Omens” and Joe Gilgun in “Brassic.
Spending a relaxing weekend? Check out this engaging show consisting of six, half-hour episodes! It’s perfect for getting familiarized with, and since its renewal for another season has been announced, now is the ideal time to dive in.
Juice is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Ludwig
If you prefer the atmosphere of “Thursday Murder Club,” then this show is perfect for you. As the popularity of cozy crime mysteries continues to grow, it couldn’t be more timely that “Ludwig” made its debut on screens towards the end of last year.
As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been hooked on the weekly whodunit series starring accidental sleuth and master puzzler John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor (David Mitchell), alongside Anna Maxwell Martin and Dipo Ola. The show, titled Ludwig, has been a smashing success, boasting an impressive 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it no surprise that it’s set to return for another thrilling season!
Ludwig is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
The Perfect Couple
Under the guidance of the director behind “The Night Manager” and “The Undoing,” Netflix’s high-profile murder mystery was bound to be an engrossing and hard-to-resist binge-watch. This glamorous, sometimes excessive drama revolves around a central murder, with each episode gradually revealing more clues to solve the case.
In this production, the elegantly attired Nicole Kidman takes center stage, accompanied by Dakota Fanning, Liev Schreiber, Meghann Fahy (a familiar face from “The White Lotus”), and Eve Hewson.
The Perfect Couple is available now on Netflix.
Smoggie Queens
Last year in late November, I was blown away by this fresh BBC sitcom that hit our screens. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, you can easily binge-watch the entire first season (with only six episodes) over a weekend. It’s truly worth your time!
The hilarious LGBTQ+ sitcom masterfully blends humor and merriment with a touching narrative about chosen family and unity, centered around a close-knit circle of queer companions. Created by and featuring Phil Dunning, Smoggie Queens unfolds in the town of Middlesbrough.
The show has left a strong impression, and it’s exciting news that another season is planned! We’re informed that there will be even more outrageous behavior and electrifying energy as the queens guide us through yet another thrilling journey!
Smoggie Queens is available now on BBC iPlayer.
Such Brave Girls
The acclaimed BBC sitcom, recently praised as the funniest in years, kicked off its latest season to universal critical acclaim, earning a flawless rating on Rotten Tomatoes at launch.
In my perspective, I’m utterly captivated by the heartwarming series titled “Such Brave Girls,” penned by the talented Kat Sadler. The narrative focuses on Deb Johnson, a strong-willed single mother portrayed brilliantly by Louise Brealey, and her two daughters, Josie (played by none other than Kat Sadler herself) and Billie, skillfully acted by Lizzie Davidson. Together, they navigate their lives in a way that resonates deeply with me.
This much-adored show premiered on BBC Three in the UK back in November 2023, and its second season was made available on BBC iPlayer starting from July 2025. In 2024, it garnered a BAFTA award for the Best Scripted Comedy category, outshining Jack Rooke’s “Big Boys” in the process.
Such Brave Girls seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
Nobody Wants This
Contrary to its name, everyone seems to crave for even more episodes of the captivating and rejuvenating romantic-comedy show on Netflix that has turned into quite a sensation.
This narrative introduced Rabbi Noah, portrayed by Adam Brody, and podcast host Joanne, played by Kristen Bell. Their serene yet fervent connection offered a refreshing twist to a genre often characterized by harmful and repetitive stereotypes.
The ten-episode series offers an effortless yet captivating viewing experience, and you might end up forgoing social plans to follow along as the main duo navigates their path to discovering love.
Good job we don’t have long to wait for season 2, eh?
Nobody Wants This is streaming now on Netflix, and season 2 will arrive on 23 October, 2025.
Dope Girls
In just six episodes, the series “Dope Girls,” often likened to “Peaky Blinders,” offers an unparalleled binge-watching experience. The compelling narrative, as we highlighted in our glowing review, is so captivating that it leaves viewers craving for more.
In the period following World War I, the war veterans yearn to rejoin the very society they departed from. However, upon their return, they discover that the landscape has significantly shifted, with a new wave of women asserting their power and showing no willingness to merely retreat to the domestic sphere again.
Dope Girls is available now on BBC iPlayer.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy is available! You can purchase the “Oasis – Live in ’25” magazine at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
