Nicholas Hoult on Returning as Beast in Avengers: Secret Wars – Is It Possible?

Actor Nicholas Hoult, who portrayed Beast in the X-Men films from 2011 to 2019, expressed his views on the possibility of reprising his role for the upcoming “Avengers: Secret Wars.” During his tenure as Hank McCoy/Beast, he was a significant character in Fox’s attempt at an interconnected X-Men universe. With Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the X-Men rights were transferred to Marvel Studios, paving the way for original Fox X-Men actors and characters to appear in the main MCU. This will be evident in two upcoming “Avengers” movies: “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.

Among the confirmed actors from older X-Men series joining Marvel Cinematic Universe’s pair of films that mark the end of the Multiverse Saga, there are Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto. However, James McAvoy (who played Beast in previous movies) has not been mentioned yet. Kelsey Grammer, another actor who portrayed Beast, is part of the new films, but Michael Fassbender (from X-Men: First Class) is not.

As a fervent fan, I can’t help but express my excitement about the possibility of Nicholas Hoult reprising his role as Beast in “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Although there has been no official confirmation or denial regarding this matter, his recent remarks (as reported by Vanity Fair) have certainly fueled my anticipation.

When asked if playing the villainous Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman film might decrease his chances of getting another call to reprise his role as Best, Hoult responded by saying, “No, I didn’t have a great chance to begin with.

A: “Given that you’ve played the role of Beast in multiple X-Men movies and are also recognized as Hank McCoy, do you believe taking on the character of Lex Luthor affected your possibility of making an appearance in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars?’

A: “No. I don’t think I had a high chance anyway.”

Following the proposal of Kelsey Grammer reprising his role as the blue-haired mutant in upcoming MCU films, Hoult commented that he doubts he could match up to the talent of the Frasier actor, referring to him as a “skilled Beast.

A: Are you unable to keep pace or match up against the individual depicted here, who is portrayed as The Beast, played by Kelsey Grammer?

A: “Yeah. Yes. He’s a good Beast. Kelsey Grammer. The first.”

The movie titled “Avengers: Secret Wars” is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027, concluding the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) long-running Multiverse Storyline. This film serves as part two of a grand Multiversal tale where dimensions intersect, featuring Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, and Letitia Wright’s Black Panther from Marvel Studios’ primary universe joining forces with the classic X-Men universe overseen by Bryan Singer, which was previously under 20th Century Fox.

Why Is Nicholas Hoult Not Coming Back as Beast?

It’s common for fans to acknowledge that the X-Men films starring Nicholas Hoult had some highs and lows, yet they rarely blame him as a major issue within the franchise.

Many fans who are devoted to the X-Men series would look forward to the possibility of the actor from Lex Luthor appearing as Beast in either, or even both, of the upcoming Avengers movies.

One notable challenge prevents Hoults return as his beloved mutant character: it appears that the forthcoming Avengers films in the MCU primarily revolve around the initial group of X-Men characters, excluding those from the second wave like Houlton himself.

It appears that Marvel Studios’ crossover strategies primarily focus on Patrick Stewart’s and Ian McKellen’s original trilogy of X-Men films, excluding the era starring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the franchise. Although it’s worth noting that they did cross over with other X-Men movies eventually.

For now, it seems quite improbable that Michael Fassbender (who played in X-Men: First Class and later films) will appear in Doomsday or Secret Wars, as neither project has yet to announce any casting involving the X-Men actors from those series. This could still change as more details emerge.
