The Superman Cast Picks Their Ideal Justice League, And There Are Some Deep Cuts Here
The Justice League isn’t quite forming in the DC Universe as planned by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-CEOs of DC Studios. They’re currently working on Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, which is setting up the universe, and some key heroes are already in action, but for now, Superman is presenting fans with what they’ve called the Justice Squad. The members of this team have their own opinions about who should be part of the traditional Justice League lineup.
Jeff McCobb from TopMob attended the press day for Superman in Los Angeles last month. During his meeting with Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), and Edi Gathegi (Mr. Terrific) from the Justice League, he asked about their initial picks for the team. As shown in the video above, instead of suggesting well-known heroes like The Flash or Aquaman, they came up with some surprising choices that would be exciting to watch on the big screen.
It’s intriguing that Anthony Carrigan initially thought of Martian Manhunter, a well-known Justice League character, and later mentioned Deadman too – a figure yet to appear in live-action on the big screen. For those unaware, Deadman is essentially a ghostly acrobat who can briefly take control of living beings. In conjunction with Metamorpho, as Carrigan suggested, it promises to be an engaging team, given their unique abilities.
I’d want to see Deadman. Metamorpho and Deadman — just a couple of pasty white, bald heads.
Edi Gathegi proposed an unconventional idea during the discussion about the Justice League, suggesting that Plastic Man could add a touch of humor to the DC movie franchise, given his stretchy abilities. It’s plausible to cast a talented actor who would embrace this unique role. Interestingly, Ben Schwartz, famously known as Sonic The Hedgehog’s voice, has longed for the chance to portray Plastic Man, having advocated for it over time.
It’s important to mention that the traditional DC Trinity was also appreciated in the discussion. Isabela Merced expressed her desire to see female heroes like Vixen, known for her animal powers, and Raven, who uses dark magic, join Hawkgirl on the big screen. She’s also keen on exploring the universe of Wonder Woman. As for Nathan Fillion, he’s excited about the portrayal of Batman in this continuity, as it offers an opportunity to replicate a renowned comic book scene where Batman delivers a powerful jaw-cracking blow to Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), a moment he dreams of seeing on the big screen.
In the upcoming months and years, there will undoubtedly be much discussion about the team, but let’s not jump the gun! Before we can witness the Justice League from the DC Universe, we are initially meeting the Justice Squad, which debuts this weekend with the cinema release of Superman, hitting theaters nationwide on Friday. As I mentioned in my 4.5-star TopMob review, it’s an exhilarating experience, so don’t forget to return to our site after watching the blockbuster for additional interviews and features.
