I, regretfully, share the news that the esteemed performer and former EastEnders actor, Frank Barrie, has passed away at the age of 88. This information has been confirmed by his representative.
As reported by Scott Marshall Partners, Barrie passed away tranquilly at his residence, with the comfort of his loved ones around him.
We regretfully share the news of the passing of our cherished client, Frank Barrie, who was 88 years old.
‘He died peacefully at home, with his wife Mary and daughter Julia.;
As an ardent admirer, let me share that this Yorkshire-born thespian graced our screens as Edward Bishop in the BBC soap opera from 2010 to 2011. His character, a beacon of the local church choir, found himself entwined in a captivating romance with none other than the iconic Dot Cotton, portrayed by the late, great June Brown.

At the Old Vic theatre, Barrie was part of Sir Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre Company, gaining acclaim for his many Shakespearean performances as well as roles in The Woman In Black and Lunch With Marlene.
In a span of 65 different nations, the one-man performance titled “Macready!” by him was staged, with him representing Great Britain at the 1982 Commonwealth Games Arts Festival held in Australia.
As a devoted fan, I can proudly say that, much like me who follows numerous productions, Barrie graced over 150 screens across various shows. Among these, you might recognize titles such as Emergency Ward 10, No Hiding Place, Softly, Softly, Special Branch, On Giant’s Shoulders, and Queen Of Swords.
In 1983, he played Eglamour in the BBC TV adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Two Gentlemen Of Verona.
Additionally, he achieved triumph as a director for global tours of plays like Shylock, works by JM Barrie, and The Life and Amours of Edith Wharton, each earning him recognition in the process.
Barrie is known for penning works such as “Wellington,” “The Family At Ham,” “The Devil You Know,” and “The Other Woman,” the latter of which was aired by the BBC and featured the esteemed actress, the late Dame Thora Hird.
During his time at Hull University, serving as the leader of the debating club, the actor encountered his future spouse.
Barrie died on June 30.
