Thirty-sixteen is joining forces with Saucony on a thrilling new partnership, reinventing the Peregrine 15 trail shoe under the theme of “Gesso.” Named after the artist’s tool used to prepare canvases for painting, this collaboration seeks to offer a blank slate for creative exploration. Just as gesso enhances paint absorption and serves as a solid foundation for artwork, this collection aims to provide a base for individual self-expression, encouraging wearers to customize and reinterpret their shoes.
On July 10, the initial rollout will showcase two distinct hues: “Indigo” and “Sunflower.” The entire lineup boasts a total of four color options: “Indigo,” “Sunflower,” “Granite,” and “Rubia.” These vibrant colors have been meticulously crafted using organic materials and dyeing methods, in collaboration with Green Matters Natural Dye Company. “Indigo” employs GOTS-certified natural indigo; “Sunflower” is dyed with weld flowers; “Granite” blends cutch, iron, and chestnut; while “Rubia” uses madder root and chestnut. Due to the unique nature of the natural dyeing process, each shoe displays subtle differences and distinctive, stain-like finishes that lend a personal touch to every pair.
The partnership showcases several months of trials with various sneakers and materials, meticulously matching shapes and colors. Going beyond the initial concepts, this project invites buyers to contribute creatively by incorporating coffee beans, plant-dyes, or other natural elements for even more customization. It’s not just about purchasing new footwear; it’s also about revitalizing old shoes, breathing new life into them through self-expression and eco-friendly ingenuity.
The unique dyed pairs can only be purchased from 3sixteen’s official website or their flagship stores in New York and Los Angeles, priced at $190 USD each. The “Blank Canvas” variant is scheduled to debut on July 17, while the “Granite” and “Rubia” color options will follow later in July.
