Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson’s son Thiago, two, rushed to hospital in ‘scary’ moment just hours before his christening
On the weekend, it was reported that Gemma Atkinson’s son, Thiago, had an alarming experience requiring him to be taken to the hospital. This incident was characterized as a particularly nerve-wracking couple of hours.
On Instagram on Wednesday, the actor previously known for their role as Lisa Hunter on Hollyoaks (at age 40) shared some concerning updates about their health.
She shares Thiago and her eldest Mia, six, with her Strictly Come Dancing fiancé Gorka Marquez, 34.
Sharing a video of my workout fun, Gemma wrote in the caption: ‘This weekend was hectic with much to do and arrange.’
As a devoted follower, here’s my account of the whirlwind week I experienced:
“Last Friday was Mia’s birthday family tea, followed by her school friends’ party on Saturday. On Sunday, we had both Mia and Thiago’s christening, and to top it all off, a late-night trip to A&E with Thiago on Saturday night.

On Sunday, we stayed out till 1 am, yet miraculously managed to make it to church at 9:30 a.m. Despite our exhaustion, it was an exceptional day for us. He’s in perfect health!
However, those hours were quite terrifying, and I feel compelled to express my profound gratitude. To Bolton Hospital Children’s Emergency Department and the kind paramedics who escorted us, a heartfelt thank you is in order.
Gemma did not reveal why Thiago was taken to hospital.
In 2017, Gemma crossed paths with her dancing companion, who was also a professional, during their time together on Strictly Come Dancing. However, they didn’t actually dance together on the program itself.
Over the last few years, the family’s life has been chronicled on their reality TV series titled “Gemma and Gorka: Unveiling Real Life.
However, only a few months back, it became known that the series had been canceled following its second season.
As an over-the-moon fanatic, I can’t help but share my excitement about being part of creating not one, but TWO seasons of “Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens” with Two Rivers Media, under the watchful eye of UKTV, the channel that made it all possible!
Currently, Gemma and Gorka have their hands full with other tasks, which means that as of now, we don’t have any ongoing plans for another series. However, we eagerly anticipate collaborating with them once more in the near future.

The revelation took everyone by surprise, given that Gemma had proposed back in November of last year that the reality series might resume – due to its impressive performance.
When asked if the show would be making a return, she told The Express: ‘Potentially, yeah.
At the moment, discussions are underway about taking action, yet we often find ourselves questioning, “What is it that makes people continue to observe us seemingly idle?
‘But it did really well, it was like the biggest show on their channel so possibly.’
This “behind-the-scenes” TV show vowed to offer an authentic glimpse into the everyday lives of actress, radio host Gemma Atkinson, and dance pro Gorka Marquez as it premiered on our screens in August 2023.
The initial set of only three installments primarily focused on Gemma’s pregnancy journey leading to the birth of her son, Thiago.
Audience members watched as Gorka juggled his dance tour alongside getting ready for his child’s birth – they were also invited to attend the baby shower, culminating with Thiago’s debut in the last episode.
The show proved extremely popular and came back for another season in May of the previous year, focusing on their transition into a family of four over six episodes.

The couple said at the time: ‘We’re excited to be back on your screens for our second series.
‘The messages we received, and are still receiving from the first series, have blown us away.
We’re pleased that many families find similarities with our own experiences in the chaotic, delightful, and tiring realm of parenting!
Gemma became well-known first on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks and its related shows, followed by parts in the BBC’s medical drama Casualty and the competing ITV soap opera Emmerdale.
She made the move into presenting in 2017, taking the drivetime slot on Hits Radio.
