Stitch Steals the Show on Magic Kingdom Railroad: Fans Divided!

Disneys famous Magic Kingdom Railroad, recognized for its traditional allure and leisurely full circuit trip, has momentarily adjusted its operation style and welcomed an unexpected celebrity aboard – none other than Stitch!

Starting from July 7, 2025, I’ve noticed some significant changes at Walt Disney World! The ongoing construction of Piston Peak National Park, themed around the “Cars” universe, and Disney Villains Land have led to a temporary modification in the operation of the classic Walt Disney World Railroad.

In this transition period, the trains are now running in a ‘shuttle’ mode, meaning they only travel between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland stations. Sadly, the Frontierland Station is currently out of reach due to the construction work happening there. As always, I can’t wait to see the final results and explore these new additions when they open!

To adapt to the new route, Disney has adjusted the layout of the seats within the train cars. Now, benches are arranged to face both ways, allowing guests to travel easily regardless of whether the train is moving forwards or backwards – a modification made considering that the train now moves in one direction and reverses on its return journey.

The main change is introducing a fresh narrative with Stitch, or Experiment 626, as the speaker. While traveling from Main Street to Fantasyland in the opposite direction, Stitch teams up with the conductor as a co-commentator. They engage in friendly banter throughout the brief ride, with Stitch jokingly mispronouncing “Tomorrowland,” asking humorously if he can drive the train, and commenting on nearby attractions such as TRON Lightcycle / Run and Astro Orbiter.

This summer, if you’re taking the train, remember that the fresh narration will only play during westbound journeys (from Main Street to Fantasyland). To make the most of this new feature and watch Stitch’s funny acts, don’t forget to secure a seat facing backwards for an unforgettable experience!

History of the Magic Kingdom Railroad and Stitch in the Park

Previously, the railway system had to operate as a shuttle service, just like what happened back in the period between 2011 and 2012 during Fantasyland’s significant renovation.

Instead, this most recent update incorporates a fresh narrative approach centered around characters into the traditional ride, offering a fresh experience for fans during Frontierland’s renovation period. Although Disney hasn’t specified a timeline for the full route’s resumption, it’s anticipated that normal operations will resume once construction on the new lands is finished.

Now, Stitch serves as a joint conductor for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Recently, Disney made updates to the train ride’s condensed route, featuring Stitch as the main character, and added fresh narration overnight.

For enthusiasts of Stitch, this alteration is particularly noteworthy. Previously, “Stitch’s Great Escape!” shut down in 2018; however, this fresh role revives the naughty alien devoid of the debatable aspects that characterized his discontinued attraction. Instead of eliciting jump scares or smelly chili-dog gags, Stitch now amuses visitors with jokes, cordial commentary, and energetic collaboration as a co-conductor.

Reception to the Change

Enthusiasts of Stitch have shown eagerness to embrace this latest modification. They acknowledge it as a shrewd move to temporarily revamp the railway during its reconfiguration, which promises fun for the kids visiting in the meantime.

Some visitors have expressed dissatisfaction upon discovering that an opening day attraction in the Magic Kingdom has been modified, now focusing more on Disney film intellectual properties instead of being centered around the park. This change comes during a year when numerous iconic attractions have permanently closed down.

The adjustments being made to the railroad are being carried out to facilitate the construction and renovation of Frontierland, where Tom Sawyer’s Island and Rivers of America are being replaced to create a new area themed around Cars. Fans of Disney have also expressed sadness over the closure of Muppet Vision 3D in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Additionally, Dinosaur in Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be shutting down this year, to be transformed into an Indiana Jones-themed attraction.
