Noel Gallagher’s ex drops why she left Oasis concert (and it makes total sense)
Occasionally, it becomes necessary for well-known figures like me, Noel Gallagher’s ex-wife Meg Mathews, to take a deep breath and express my exasperation at the negativity and hostility that often fills social media (and other platforms). “Good grief,” I find myself muttering, as I navigate through the online noise.
On the debut tour night for Oasis since 2009, held in Cardiff, Wales, Mathews attended to catch their show. She shared on social platforms that she was enjoying herself immensely. However, an incident arose during the encore, particularly during their rendition of “Wonderwall,” at which point she decided to depart.
Was she displeased because the band seemed to be playing a tune that appeared to be about her? It’s peculiar, as many online critics have suggested this hypothesis. However, the song isn’t a ballad of a bitter split-up. Instead, it carries rather sweet lyrics.
Meg Mathews forced to explain why she left Oasis concert early
A more accurate assumption could be that Mathews was familiar with the song, as everybody else, having listened to it countless times prior. This seems to align more closely with reality.
Unfortunately, much like many celebrities find themselves compelled to do, she shared a post on her Instagram detailing why she had to leave when she did, as numerous discussions about it were circulating. Strangely enough, this is an issue that arises in today’s modern world. In the past, during the time “Wonderwall” was released, people didn’t take smartphones to concerts, so only those attending the show would have known Mathews had left before the end.
Mathews explained that her departure was similar to when other people occasionally exit before a concert or match concludes: She aimed to avoid the rush-hour traffic.
Mathews expressed on Instagram that she thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the show. However, she also mentioned, “And to all the newspapers I abandoned before the final number, as I’ve often departed from stadiums at the end and it can be chaotic… But yes, I did catch snippets of Wonderwall as I walked to my car! Seems you’re content now(?)
Essentially, what you’re saying is that the final point carries significant weight. Regardless of Mathews’ intense displeasure over the song being performed given everyone knew it was coming (making the hostility towards Mathews seem unwarranted), she would have heard it as she departed, regardless.
As a devoted admirer, I often find myself reminding myself that celebrities, much like us, are simply human beings. After all, I’ve listened to Mathews’ music countless times, yet I don’t feel the need to judge or expect more from him beyond his artistry.
