Viewers confused as Channel Nine fails to air State of Origin fails pre-game entertainment after country singer booked for the gig was slammed by footy fans
Viewers of the State of Origin were puzzled on Wednesday evening as Channel Nine neglected to broadcast the previously announced pre-match spectacle.
As Brad Cox, a popular Australian country singer, performed live for over 80,000 NRL fans at Accor Stadium, viewers tuning in from home were treated to advertisements instead.
It’s quite odd that the pre-game entertainment didn’t get aired… I find that disappointing. Still, Brad Cox is an absolute legend.
‘There is a reason Channel 9 are not showing the pre-game “entertainment,”‘ said another.
‘Can’t wait to hear Brad Cox perform – said no NRL fan ever,’ one more viewer chimed in online.

‘The #origin pre-game horse s**t is as cringe as ever,’ someone else posted.
Another viewer at home, upon hearing that Cox was set to perform, expressed confusion by asking, “Who is that?
As a die-hard supporter, I can’t contain my excitement when I heard that Cox was chosen for the pre-game entertainment at the NRL’s Origin series decider in Sydney on Tuesday. However, it seems that not all football enthusiasts share my enthusiasm, as a wave of discontent has swept across the fan community.
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but gush over this 30-year-old artist who’s made waves with his hit track “Give Me Tonight.” This tune has racked up an impressive 12 million streams on Spotify alone! It’s safe to say that he’s got me, and countless others, under his musical spell.
It’s a significant career milestone for the artist from Jindabyne, New South Wales, to entertain over 80,000 fans at Accor Stadium.
But some bemused fans felt the NRL missed the mark.
One person directly commented, “Is this really the best the NRL has to offer? There isn’t even an image of him on his Wikipedia page.
‘Surely you could’ve done better?’ asked another.

‘Ahh yes the famous Brad Cox,’ added a third, sarcastically.
2018 saw Cox make a dynamic entrance into Australia’s country music world, with his first self-titled album. This release earned him not one but two highly respected Golden Guitar nominations.
He has also promised a ‘high-energy’ performance.
Cox mentioned to News Corp that our goal is to excite the spectators for an upcoming football match, so we will play with that energy in mind.
It seems likely that we will set a precedent. I believe that combining NRL (National Rugby League) with country music might become commonplace, and we could very well be the pioneers of this trend.
