Why BMPS 2025 Grand Finals failed to attract masses and was not a success as it should have been
Story Highlights
- BMPS 2025 Grand Finals saw very less footfalls on the first two days.
- No announcements were made regarding the Esports roadma for the remaining of 2025.
- Fan-favorite teams failed to qualify for the Finals, which resulted low concurrent watching on YouTube.
The second major tournament of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), known as the Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS) 2025, has come to an end at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi. This Grand Finals was anticipated to be the most sought-after BGMI Esports competition of late.
Although the event didn’t quite live up to expectations when assessing its success across various key indicators. In this piece, we delve into the details of the BMPS 2025 LAN Grand Finals, identifying and analyzing the potential flaws that contributed to the tournament’s subpar performance.
How the BMPS 2025 Grand Finals unfolded
From the get-go of this tournament, things were looking quite promising. The crowd’s energy was palpable, and the enthusiasm from simultaneous viewers was off the charts. The tantalizing prospect of a slot in the Esports World Cup (EWC) only served to heighten the excitement even further.
However, these events persisted until the end of the second week of the semi-finals. Following this, a decline began, and matters took a turn for the worse. Here are some potential explanations:
Lack of footfall in the LAN played a crucial role
This year’s BMPS LAN Finals saw a noticeable lack of attendees at the venue, with approximately 80% of the area being empty, particularly on the first day. Even Esports influencers’ social media posts reflected this scarcity. The low turnout was likely due to the absence of popular teams that usually draw large crowds.
In essence, India represents a colossal gaming and influencer landscape, yet its esports scene isn’t as prominent. However, the possibilities are vast, and it’s essential to construct an esports culture from the ground up, rather than simply replicating what works elsewhere. I trust that those entering this region will grasp this concept.

In the BMPS tournament, well-known teams like iQOO SouL, Hero Xtreme GodLike, Revenant X-Spark, Orangutan Esports, and others were unable to reach the Grand Finals. This seemed to discourage many people from attending the event as spectators. However, on the final day, there was a noticeable crowd turnout, suggesting that perhaps the event still had some appeal.
No hype or proper promotion of the Tournament
Following the Semi-finals, there seemed to be a lack of effective marketing strategies and hype generation for the LAN Finals. In contrast, during the last official tournament, the Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS), the organizers took numerous steps to advertise the event. Regrettably, such efforts appeared to be missing this time around.

In an attempt to increase visibility, measures such as placing advertisements in public areas and on public transportation were implemented. However, I feel these efforts fell short. Unfortunately, providing free passes for the tournament during the final stages was not initially offered when tickets went on sale at the beginning of the event.
No announcement of a proper Roadmap or future possibilities made it more boring
Prior to the commencement of the Grand Finals, it was widely anticipated that we would receive the long-awaited plan for the rest of the year. Additionally, EWC officially announced on its website that the winner of BMPS 2025 will travel to Riyadh to represent India at the Esports World Cup (EWC).

It was our expectation to receive that announcement during the LAN Finals, given it had been a while since we secured an international slot. Regrettably, things did not unfold as planned. Instead, Mr. Karan Pathak, the Associate Director of Esports at Krafton India, shared on his social media platform that a new franchise system tournament and the KIE Campus Tour for students are imminent.
Less concurrent Viewership
One significant issue with this year’s Battle of Mighty Powers Sports (BMPS) was a noticeable drop in simultaneous viewings on YouTube. Surprisingly, even during the group stage and semi-finals, which featured all the most popular teams, we experienced an impressive live audience of nearly 200,000 viewers, with the peak reaching around 270,000.
In past official tournaments, things hadn’t changed much. But this time, the situation was unique. The YouTube channel Krafton India Esports, where BMPS was being live-streamed, experienced low viewership, with barely 100,000 concurrent viewers in the initial two days.
On the last day, there was a significant surge in viewers, reaching nearly between 150,000 and 170,000. While this is still an impressive figure, considering Battlegrounds Mobile India’s reputation and its usual viewer count, it seems relatively low compared to its norm.
Final Thoughts
While I wouldn’t label BMPS 2025 as an outright failure, upon careful analysis and breakdown of the factors leading to its decline, it seems clear that Krafton and the organizing team had significant room for improvement when it came to generating excitement and hype around the event.
It’s clear that the Esports World Cup (EWC) is approaching, and Team Aryans x TMG will be representing India. I believe the excitement surrounding Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) will resurface due to this. Additionally, the new franchise tournament and Campus Tour are expected to rejuvenate the ecosystem and enhance the Indian esports scene. However, only time can truly tell how things unfold.
