Superman’s 2025 Post-Credit Scenes: Are Fans in for a Disappointment?

In James Gunn’s potential launch of a new DC Universe with Superman, fans might not find the post-credits scenes as groundbreaking or future-altering as they hope. Throughout his career in superhero filmmaking, Gunn has employed last-second stingers for various purposes, including setting up sequels and spin-offs, providing comedic relief, and other miscellaneous uses.

In his “Out of Theater” review of Superman, YouTuber John Rocha revealed that the DCU’s first blockbuster has not one but two post-credit scenes. Fans might jump to speculate about hints for Batman and the introduction of Brainiac, but previous statements from James Gunn suggest it’s best to keep expectations in check when watching Superman.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn shared his unique approach towards post-credits scenes, which he developed based on his work with the Guardians of the Galaxy series.

He detailed how poking fun at Adam Warlock in the Vol. 2 stinger unexpectedly laid the groundwork for many complications, which later became issues that he had to address when moving on to Vol. 3.

In “Guardians 2,” I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the parts where we established Adam Warlock, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and a bunch of other elements that weren’t necessarily part of my initial plans. While I did intend to deliver on the Adam Warlock promise, it’s important to approach it carefully. Integrating Adam Warlock into “Guardians 3” was quite challenging. I enjoyed collaborating with Will and working on the character, but towards the end, one could argue that he didn’t quite fit seamlessly like a round peg in a round hole, perhaps more of a square peg.

The leader of DCU expressed that he will add a hinting postscript at the end of the credits only if it is absolutely effective. For instance, the post-credit scene in “The Suicide Squad” verifying Peacemaker’s survival effectively works since his HBO Max series was already under development, confirming its success.

Previously, Gunn has expressed dissatisfaction with post-credits scenes, including one he himself directed for Thor: The Dark World, which hinted at Guardians of the Galaxy. Though it successfully introduced the Infinity Stones and showcased a powerful performance by Benicio Del Toro, Gunn felt that overall, it moved too quickly.

Regardless of other factors, Gunn expresses his passion for acknowledging and appreciating his audience by providing them with something extra when they stay until the end of the credits. He consistently strives to offer special inclusions for those who have supported him throughout the project.

As a movie enthusiast, I always aim to give a little extra to my viewers, so I’ll make sure to include some fun tidbits in the end credits. I truly believe it adds value and keeps the experience going even after the final scene. My crew is the lifeblood of every project, and I want you all to stick around until the very end to see who those hardworking gaffers were.

It appears that Superman won’t have any post-credits scenes, according to leaker MyTimeToShineHello, who mentioned that neither of the film’s two stingers are worth sticking around for after the credits.

Why Superman’s Post-Credit Scene Will Just Be a Gag

With Gunna planning the next outing for David Corenswet’s Man of Steel character, fans can hardly wait to catch a glimpse of what’s in store for Superman in a possible sequel or future DC Universe production.

Although iconic figures such as Batman and Wonder Woman might seem unattainable, there was still some optimism that DCU projects currently in development, including Green Lantern, Supergirl, and Peacemaker (Season 2), could potentially come to fruition.

It appears that, based on Gunn’s thoughts about the philosophical aspect of his post-credit scene and MyTimeToShineHello’s exclusive information, it seems more likely that these will just be humorous wrap-ups for Superman, rather than significant events.

In the initial stages of DCU, a significant portion of its future outcomes depends on how Superman performs and is received. Given this, it’s wiser for Gunn to steer clear of making extravagant promises and instead create something entertaining involving Superman, Krypto, or the Justice League.
